  1. Ray, can you post the info in the Topic? Tom
  2. I agree on both counts. Tom
  3. Lovely! Is the scroll part and background painted?
  4. What kind / size of torch did you use?
  5. The washer trick would have been good for this. It was a pain to follow the existing outline. The 1/2” thickness of this piece along with the dark finish created the problem. The gloss white on textured mat board backer did help. I would have done it thinner +/or lighter if not for wanting to use the wood from the antique Singer sewing machine. Tom
  6. Fantastic, though I haven't a clue who they are... Tom
  7. Thanks everyone. Guess I needed to vent a little. You'd think that at my age I'd get past that perfectionist curse and accept that it was my best effort at the time. Tom
  8. I'm putting this post in Bragging Rights though I'm certainly not bragging. I'm not happy with it for a number of reasons. One the bright side I learned from each of my errors and my DW likes it. First off it was a difficult cut with the wood so hard. It had 110 years to harden before I repurposed this old Singer Sewing Machine cabinet. There are a few really well cut lines. Otherwise it is comprised of curves with flats or with curved straight lines. Seems like everything I tried to salvage the project and make the letters "pop" didn't work and I had a better idea after I had burned a bridge. The bright white background did help with the letters and features a bit but only if looking straight on from a distance. The photo was taken fairly close and shows how the letters fade away with anything but straight on. I may try to hand paint the inside of the letters white. Would have been easy to spray before I glued the backer on. Could also have made the backer 8 x 10 and put in a frame. Lots of Oh Duh moments and lots to learn. Thank you to those who helped me with my printing problems early on and to those making suggestions on finishing. Tom
  9. Oh, I have made one cosmetic change. Anal as I am I had to have mounting bolts that matched the others on the machine. Turns out the arm pivot bolt is the perfect length for mounting the lifter arm. I ordered a couple online. Tom
  10. Now that I've got a couple projects under my belt with the DeWalt and this lifter I can report it a success and recommend the design. Using it has become automatic. Though I've not used any other design I can't imagine anything working better. Tom
  11. Oh, don't look too close. There are some lines that I'm really happy with. But there are many that scream for a do-over. Fortunately my DW won't be as critical as I am. Thanks for all the suggestions on completing this project. I don't have a large enough piece of BB for the backer so I'm trying picture mat board. Gloss white paint is now drying. Tom
  12. With my kids I would have had to superglue the screws! Tom
  13. Yes it does, but that was the paper pattern with packing tape over it. LOL Maybe I'll have to paint it white, but hoping for another solution. Guess I could sand off the dark brown and see what I get. Shoulda thought of that before sawing. I can hear my Junior High shop teacher: Plan your work, then work your plan. Tom
  14. I just finished sawing this (modified) Steve Good pattern and am looking for suggestions to best display it. I recently dismantled a very early 1900's Singer treadle sewing machine. My wife wants the cast legs made into a table. I've salvaged all of the wood. I thought it appropriate to some of it on this wall hanging. It is constructed with 1-3/4 wide boards (oak, I think) with a 1/32" oak veneer of both sides. Thickness is 1/2". This is the hardest wood I've ever run into and sawing for this beginner was a task. I wanted to leave the original finish. I'm not sure what the finish is but it is dark. And that's my problem. With the finish so dark the lettering and features kind of disappear. Thought about hanging it in a window to get backlight but doubt my DW will want it there. I'm looking for suggestions on how to best present this piece. Thanks, Tom
  15. Sounds like a good plan. Thanks for the tip. Tom
  16. Disappointed. I was expecting a photo of you! Welcome
  17. I have that pattern printed and ready to apply. How stable are the bowls? I’m wondering if a couple of the lower rings would be better left as part of the base.
  18. Enjoyed the video. Gives us newbies a better understanding of the process on a piece such as this. What is the black wood-grained product you used behind the cutting? Tom
  19. Thanks Guys Tom
  20. Well, no wonder. I didn't notice that it was old. I'm still learning to navigate this forum. I usually click on "Unread Content" and read the topics that look interesting to me. Then I "Mark Site Read". I'm not sure how this old post surfaced. Thanks, Tom
  21. I get a 404 Not Found error when I go to this URL. Tried Chrome and Internet Explorer with the same result.
  22. Happy Thanksgiving and welcome home. Glad you are on the mend. No matter our straits we always have something to be thankful for.
  23. Good job. I love this jeep! Is the pattern on SSV? Tom
  24. I keep a list of these ALT codes next to my keyboard. Tom
  25. That could be a hornets nest. Bird nests usually set on top of the branch. Thanks for sharing your experience. I've yet to try spiral blades but plan to order some soon. Looks like a completely different skill set required. Tom
