  1. Thank you!
  2. 144 blades! Oh lord, I’m sure I’ll get there soon enough. So for other stuff like ornaments and “regular” projects that are not so intricate as a portrait I probalby wouldn’t need a spiral, unless the project is to big to make the turns in the saw. Seems like Flying Dutchman blades get lots of love. What other brands are good? I have Bosch now that I got from Lowe’s so I don’t know any better.
  3. I’m overwhelmed! 0, 1, 3, 5, 7, reverse, skip, reverse skip, spiral, arrrggghhh!!! What is “skip” blades? Should I buy a set of each and see what I like best? I read that #3 and #5 will do anything you need - is that true? When/why would I use spiral? Are they any good? I read that some blades have sand paper on the sides - where do I find those or are they a waste of time? I asked this in a welcome thread but what is a “gross” of blades? I think that’s it for now... Thank you!!
  4. Welcome from a fellow Tennessean! Stupid question - what is a “gross” of blades?
  5. I don’t wear one. Cutting or sanding. I probably should!
  6. It’s not coming from the blade rubbing the plastic piece. Plenty of space there. I started it up and it has no squeak, just vibration. It was warmer today, roughly 65 degrees. I run it for a while. Then next thing you know the squeak comes back. I turn it off and on while I’m fiddling around. The squeak goes away. Then comes back, then goes away. Ha!! I’m very likely going to take it back and upgrade to the Delta.
  7. Y’all are awesome!
  8. Thanks everyone! If I’m buying plywood for scrolling what kind is best? I know the Lowe’s has a few different kinds of plywood.
  9. I’m sure it’s been asked 1,000 times so here goes 1,001. Ive been using big box retailer woods. Poplar and Oak boards from Lowe’s. 1/4 inch up to 3/4. I also got some plywood. I noticed the Poplar snapped easily. What are some good wood options? Where do you get wood from? Thanks!
  10. How’s the shelf liner work? I use spray adhesive then tape over it. Or painters tape on the wood then spray adhesive the template to the tape.
  11. I didn’t make it out there today to check. I don’t think it is. BUT, I’m not 100% sure on that. I’ll have more time tomorrow and I’ll check it out.
  12. Do y'all think the Delta 40-694 is a better option? Or the DeWalt DW788 ? I also only have an un-heated shed to use it in. I do turn the heat on when I'm out there though. Kerosene heater.
  13. Thanks for the welcome!
  14. That’s a real bummer! I suppose you get what you pay for. Out of curiosity what pivot points did you lube?
  15. Just the one Lowe’s in town. Next closest one is an hour away. Same with Home Depot, an hour away as well. Since I just got it yesterday I have at least 14 days (I think) to return it. So I’d first like to see if any fixes are available. Maybe someone out there on the inter webs as the same one and the same problem. If not I’ll be packing it up and returning it. I have not checked C/L, didn’t even think about that. I will now though!
  16. Hello Everyone, New scroll saw user here. From Middle Tennessee. Literally 4 days ago I dug out my grandpa’s old Central Machinery scroll saw from the shed loft because I was bored. I thought “what can I do with this?”. It’s been up there for about 4 years. Did some Googling, found some awesome looking photos and designs and thought “I gotta try that!”. I did a couple small projects the first day. The second day I did a couple more. The 3rd day I bought a new Porter Cable saw from Lowe’s. And the 4th day here I am. So bear with me while I ask a bunch of amateur questions. Everything I know so far I’ve just found out within the last 4 days. Happy to be here! -Jason
  17. Wow those look great. Very clean corners. One day I’ll get corners like that!
  18. Thanks, Ray I attached a photo to this post of my saw. To my ears it sounds like it is coming from behind the Porter Cable plate on the upper arm. And right there is where it looks like the bearings are, or at least some type of moving part. It’s a brand new saw too. Just got it yesterday. Seems odd it wouldn’t come lubed up but then again, doesn’t really seem odd.
  19. Hello Everyone, Yesterday I bought a Porter Cable scroll saw from Lowe’s. I used it last night and it worked great except for a very slight vibration. I got some rubber to put under the legs and under the bolts where the saw is attached to the stand. Hopefully that helps with the vibration. But anyway,....tonight I head out to the shed to add the rubber and the saw is squeaking. Wasn’t squeaking yesterday when I used it for a few small projects... It sounds like it is coming from the upper arm pivot point/bearings. Is there anyway I can fix this short of taking it back? I bought the last one and I’d really like to start scrolling! I have attached a video of the squeak. Thanks for your help! -Jason https://youtu.be/fJF7SC-GEzs
