  1. Last one for the day.
  2. that's funny because for some reason the Jackson Browne, Running on Empty song came to mind when I finished. Except it was "Scrollin' on empty" It is from Steve Good's website https://www.stevedgood.com/catalog/index.php
  3. Just finished this one.
  4. Thanks for the info!
  5. Don’t mention the spacing and they won’t notice. I never did until it was pointed out. Looks great!
  6. How did you attach them together? Glue? Epoxy?
  7. Finished this one up yesterday. Wasn’t to bad to complete. My biggest piece yet. I need more wood, blades, and time!
  8. Very cool to see new tricks. But I’ll stick with the spray adhesive and painters tape. Going to also try the clear contact paper.
  9. This whole time I was thinking you actually boiled the oil haha. Man I’m a complete newb! Sounds like there is no right or wrong way or better product to use. I can see myself with several shelves full of different oils, stains, paints until I find one I like. Such a rabbit hole!
  10. You see, this is why online forums exist. Folks always have simple answers that you never thought of. Stain the board FIRST! Makes so much sense yet I never considered it. I’m leaning more toward the oil method anyway. I like the sanding sticks but I think the sanding blades would be a pain in the butt. I guess I won’t worry to much about it. Maybe I was just looking for a reason to use my orbital sander.
  11. I’ve read folks using nothing but danish oil. I can’t help but think it’s the same as staining though. You need to get it in the nooks and crannies. I’d very much like to avoid staining because the few times I did do it....I DID NOT enjoy it. I’ll have to get some danish oil and try it.
  12. Now that I have a few projects cut I'm curious how y'all go about finishing them. Sanding: I have a random orbital sander for the flat sides. I have been doing 220 grit (I think). How do y'all get inside the fretwork? Needle files? and around the outside edge of the piece? Staining: I have the Minwax Pre-Stain and a couple different Minwax penetrating stains. First one I did turned out blotchy. I left it on for a few minutes and wiped it off just like the directions said to. My other question here is how do y'all stain the inside fretwork? I was thinking a tray full of stain that I can dip the piece in. I've got a piece of Birch plywood that is ready for staining but there is a bit of fretwork that I can't get stain to with just the foam brush. Does anyone paint their scroll saw projects? If so what paint would you use? Thanks for your time! -Jason
  13. Thanks for the tips! Wiping the blades is a good one, never thought of that. When I’m in a 90 degree corner I can handle it ok. It’s the turns that go backward greater than 90 degrees that get me. I will back up and turn in to the waste area and cut to an uncut line until I have a chunk of waste that pops out. Then go back to the corner to clean it up. Time consuming but until I get better it works.
  14. Tried out the Flying Dutchman #3 and #5 today. I did this with the #5. I can tell right away they are better blades than I was using (Bosch Pinned). Now the hard part is finding the right tension and keeping it. A few times the blade slipped out of the chuck. The thin blades are also a lot less forgiving of mistakes and bad technique. If you turn to much or come in to sharp you’ll quickly see your error. Doing this I thought “shoot, I’m not as good as I thought I was” haha. Design from Steve Good’s website
  15. Finally the Flying Dutchman has arrived. 1, 3, 5, and spiral. Scroll Reverse. This is about to get fun!
  16. May I ask how long that took?
  17. Ahhh blades blades!! I’m still waiting for my new blades to arrive. Glad you found one you like.
  18. Do you mostly sell at craft shows? Any luck with online sales?
  19. Must have been one heck of a trumpet! We need to see pics when the saw arrives please! Congrats!
  20. Yeah the broom under my nose filters it ha! I gotta get a respirator. The dusk mask I have fogs my glasses. Eventually I’m going to get the 3M respirator that takes the P100 filters. I’ve been doing to widen the kerf trick now. It’s working OK but I’m sure I’ll run in to a situation where that’s not an option.
  21. Ahhh! Then my blade is really dull Also started to sound different, I suppose that’s an indication.
  22. It’s a Bosch blade from Lowe’s. 20 TPI. All I could find in town. I have 1, 3, and 5 Flying Dutchman Scroll Reverse on order. I scrolled 15 initial ornaments with that blade. Went through about 4 of them, a few broke. Is there any way to tell when your blade is dull or is that just a feeling thing?
  23. Outside around the ornament.
  24. I took 2 videos with my tablet while in the shed. Cutting out a letter B ornament. I’m looking for some critique on my scrolling. I’m having trouble making tight corners. Turning on a dime just isn’t working like it should I think. WARNING SHAKY VIDEO. I had my tablet on a bucket on top of my work bench to get a good angle. Had no idea it shook so much until after I was done. I’ll take no offense if you don’t want to or can’t watch it. I don’t blame you! I guess that goes to show how much the scroll saw is vibrating.
  25. Awesome chart! I should print that and hang it in the shop
