  1. I just got my flex drum sanders from JGR today. I was looking at them and kept thinking I had seen that foam somewhere before. It sure looks like pool noodle foam to me! I measured them and the diameters of the piece and the hole are identical. 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 inches on the outside and 3/4 inches on the inside. https://www.amazon.com/Fix-Find-Flexible-Colorful-Noodles/dp/B01MDUJKRO/ref=pd_cp_200_2/136-2942046-4338605?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01MDUJKRO&pd_rd_r=66a705d0-c637-486c-a793-a514b8981e1f&pd_rd_w=0DWa7&pd_rd_wg=XBqoA&pf_rd_p=592dc715-8438-4207-b7fa-4c7afdeb6112&pf_rd_r=A48F3R9NH6CD8A9B7M0H&psc=1&refRID=A48F3R9NH6CD8A9B7M0H
  2. Have any of you ever played the video game driving a car on a race track? That's how my scroll saw acts sometimes. LOL
  3. Thank you, they're 10.5" long x 8" wide. Perfect for letter sized pattern copies.
  4. Thank you, the brand is Keda. These stains come in a powder, mix a tiny smidgen of that with a tbsp. of water and add alcohol, I used a 2 oz container and it was enough to do both of those bears in brown, 2 coats. The powders were totally absorbed with the liquids, no settling in the bottom. Here's a link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BAKWTMQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  5. Thanks! I love these stains. The brown is really a nice color, I'll run out of that one first.
  6. I knew I didn't throw away that old pair of shoes for some reason. Great tip. My flex drums are coming Friday, I want to keep those clean for sure.
  7. The last hobby I had turned into a business and I just retired from it last year. I was making gel candles, then figured out there were no supplies for that particular craft and I opened a website and ran it for 19 years. That would have turned into an empty wallet, too, if I hadn't gotten into the supply business. I guess I emptied out everyone else's wallets? lol
  8. These are the first pictures I've taken with a new camera. And only the 3rd and 4th projects I've done. I used pine boards, segmented the pattern, and used the water/alcohol stains on them. I have 3 more of these cut out, my husband thinks we've been invaded by Teddies.
  9. Today I'm going to get a chainsaw. For those big scroll jobs. LOL Not really, we need one for a tree that fell during the last storm (Alabama car wash).
  10. I bought a digital camera tonight, I'll have it by Wednesday. I'm used to uploading pictures on my PC, so hopefully it won't be an exercise in hair ripping like my printer last night. I cut out 2 more of the Teddys tonight. One will probably look weird because I used a scrap piece of pine and the grain happened to go sideways instead of vertical like the other 3. This is the pattern I'm using, I know some of you have cut this one, too. https://scrollsawnewb.com/intarsia-teddy-bear-pattern/
  11. Hi and welcome. I'm new at this too and have been using pine 3/4" and 1/2 inch plywood and using stains and paint with them. It's pretty cheap to practice that way. I've got some hardwood but I'm still afraid to mess it up. It's not cheap, you're right about that.
  12. I also bought a digital camera!
  13. I decided to go with the slow speed grinder, mainly because of the price and I got it for 17.00 after my Amazon rewards points. I can always upgrade later if I get good enough to sell any of this stuff. I can always take off a drum and do what Dave said, add a sanding mop. I ordered the flex drums from Judy's website tonight, too. Can I stop spending money now? heh
  14. As a side note, power tools are the only items I can think of that weigh as much as they do and can cost so little. The slow speed grinder in my first post weighs 37.5 lbs and is only 80.00.
  15. I thought so too, that's why I was looking at low speed grinders. I'm still on the hunt.
  16. I've got a Wen oscillating sander. I've only used it once, yesterday, when the dog was having fun chasing the small pieces that flew outta my hands into the yard. It's nice though because I can just screw it into side of a workbench outside and bring it in when I'm done. It sure was faster taking the edge off the wood than my dremel and hand sanding.
  17. Thanks for the reminder to check the blades when inserting. I still feel like I have 10 thumbs when scrolling.
  18. The speeds on the delta are as follows: 2000 to 3400 rpm Is that too fast or will 2K do, instead of recommended 1700 range?
  19. I like the light on there.
  20. I was looking at this one, too. I assume it would also work. It's a 6 inch variable speed. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HRM509A/?coliid=I216H8GRKVPU1Z&colid=2E2HNZGSH2M50&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
  21. I ran across this when researching the Dewalt 788. On another forum someone had the same problem, it was the switch. Another user said the Dewalt 788 is notorious for this problem and to cover the switch with a plastic bag to keep the sawdust out and also said to install a foot pedal to end it once and for all.
  22. I need the flexible sanding set up. Can anyone tell me if this machine https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015U2STNM/?coliid=I319VVSFJ7F8DR&colid=2E2HNZGSH2M50&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it and JGR's kit here https://intarsia.com/collections/hardware/products/flex-drum-sander will work together without needing anything else? I am power tool challenged!
  23. I'll try and set aside a few minutes tomorrow to get the tablet pics going on. I'm really happy with the brown stain. I made another teddy today and reversed the image, this one has a pink scarf stained with the powder. You just take a tablespoon of warm water and a smidgen of the powder, mix it and then I added an ounce of alcohol. It mixed right up. No lumps and no settling to the bottom. I did get my oscillating sander set up today. I want to get the table top sander that has the flex drums on it. I wish I had known that is really what I needed before I bought what I did. Another thing that I am glad I bought are the silicone finger protectors. I wouldn't have had any skin left if I hadn't had those on. I was outside and the dog was having a blast chasing the pieces that flew out of my hands and off the balcony into the yard. lol I had to run to keep him from chewing them, he's still a pup.
  24. It's not worth the hassle to me. I can just cut the flat parts off and use it that way. Plus I got a good deal on the wood and don't want to cost Heritage shipping costs since it's not that big of a deal.
