  1. Thank you Frank. Very nicely done and documented. I need to do something for my shop and you have given me ideas to think about. My workshop and garden tool storage are combined in one 16' x 16' shed. So I do not have the option to locate the noisy part separately and must pay attention to the sound level.
  2. So, what blades would one use to cut glass? Jewelers blades maybe? Just asking for a friend. My wife actually. She laughed when I told her about the beer cans but got interested when I mentioned glass/bottles.
  3. Has anyone tried Miele vacuums? They are pricey new but some used ones are available on eBay. I wonder how they might compare to the Orecks.
  4. OK, true confessions. I had been following the bidding on eBay for a Hegner 14e. In spite of it not supporting top feeding, I put in a low ball bid. And I won! So I am now awaiting the arrival of my new-to-me Hegner in about 2 weeks. It will sit beside my Pegas and I will have fun comparing the two.
  5. Disappointment. I have become addicted to top feeding with my almost new Pegas.
  6. Does the Hegner not support top feeding?
  7. Nice, thanks for sharing. The scroll saw was interesting, also the way he turned his stock to make a dowel. And I did not quite get the brand of the glue he used to attach his pattern.
  8. Beautiful bowl - thanks for sharing. What type and size of wood should one use for this bowl? The video looks like plywood which is ok for the video but maybe not for a keepsake bowl.
  9. Thanks Les and Kevin. I have no intention to buy it, I was just curious what it might be and I think you have answered that. There are lots of problems with this. 1. There is no room in my small shop for another saw. 2. It is 2003 manufacture but is still in the box! 3 It uses 3" blades - what are those and where would one get them? 4. I cannot find a "Fret Saw Village" forum to compare with our "Scroll Saw Village". etc.
  10. There is a listing on eBay for a Hegner Unimax Fret Scroll saw 0310585. I cannot find any information on it anywhere, not the Advanced Machinery website nor an internet search. Does anyone know anything about it? Is it a scroll saw? Thanks, I am just curious.
  11. Fantastic job Frank! Thanks for posting and for uploading the pattern.
  12. Yes, red dust all over me and the shop. Now I am working on how to finish the dragon to keep it red. I understand that I should use a product with UV resistance. Has anyone tried Teak Oil?
  13. Thank you all for your kind comments.
  14. coffee and jesus.pdf Here is the *.pdf file of the pattern. It was done by Villager Don from Brooklin.
  15. I got my first scroll saw last summer, a used Porter Cable. I learned enough to know that I enjoyed the hobby and that the Porter Cable saw was NOT the answer. I complained enough that my wife implored me to please get a better saw. I bought my Pegas from Denny Knappen and have been most pleased with the transaction and the saw. I recommend the Pegas if you can afford it.
  16. I am new to scroll sawing and am pleased with these 2 projects. I asked for help with a pattern for Coffee and Jesus and Don from Brooklin came through for me. Thanks Don. My lady likes it and it is now hanging in our kitchen above our coffee bar. The dragon is from a Steve Good pattern, "Dragon 2016". I have yet to finish and mount the dragon. "Coffee and Jesus" is done in 1/4" mahogany with a 1/4" plywood backer. "Dragon" is done in 1/4" paduak. Both are done on my Pegas saw with Pegas #3MGT and #5 MGT blades. Happy New Year all!
  17. I have on occasion used a staple gun when there was sufficient waste area. It uses staples down to 3/8".
  18. Looks like someone got that one. But here is another one. This one is $500, located in southern Virginia. Still more than a day trip for me. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hegner-18in-Variable-Speed-Scroll-Saw/303790415857?hash=item46bb51dff1:g:1IoAAOSwOERfxZK4
  19. https://www.ebay.com/itm/HEGNER-MULTIMAX-18-SCROLL-SAW-with-mobile-stand-Local-Pickup-only/284096880805?hash=item42257e60a5:g:j0AAAOSwaDRfwnaC A Hegner Multimax 18 on ebay for $600, local pickup in NM. Might be a good deal for someone.
  20. There is a pattern for a cell phone stand on Steve Good's site. http://www.stevedgood.com/manstand.pdf I have made a few of them and my wife loves them.
  21. It looks like Dremel wins this discussion. But if anyone is interested, here's an alternative. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HQONFVE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It is a table top drill press from Wen, $85 on Amazon. I use it and am happy with it.
  22. I likely will, after I use up my (almost new) roll of blue tape.
  23. I tried the shelf liner. The stuff I bought pulled off easily enough but left a sticky residue. I have since gone back to blue painters tape. I am much happier with pulling up multiple sections of tape rather than dealing with the sticky residue. Here is the shelf liner I bought. Other brands must be better judging by all the positive comments I see on this subject. Just don't get this one. https://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Grip-Original-Removable-Coverings/dp/B0848PXDBF/ref=sr_1_4_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=gorilla+grip+shelf+liner&qid=1603664053&sr=8-4-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFVUldYRFRMUkExVlMmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTEwNDY1MDIxMzZJWDlXNEFBTkkyJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0NTM2NzEzSTI5T1BLRzA2UjJIJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
  24. Thank you Ray, very nice and very informative video. It does an excellent job of telling us all about the ins and outs of collecting the larger parts of our sawdust. But I am concerned that it does not address the other part of the issue, the finer particles that go through the vacuum filters and remain airborne. These particles are smaller than 5 microns in size and will go through most filters. They are hazardous to our health. I refer you to the article "Wood Dust Safety" https://www.wood-database.com/wood-articles/wood-dust-safety/ This is actually what got me started on this topic, along with the suspected coarse filter in my shop vac. This in addition to concerns about Wood Allergies and Toxicity, see the article https://www.wood-database.com/wood-articles/wood-allergies-and-toxicity/. I am now looking at air filtration systems like the Wen 3410 and 3415, which include a 1 micron filter, to control these finer particles. In my defense, I told you in my introduction "Newbie from Texas", October 22nd, that I intended to read everything I could find to educate myself about scroll sawing.
  25. Thank you Les. Yes, my question was about dust collection. The comment about noise was just a complaint and I do wear hearing protection. My concern about dust collection centers on the quality of the filter in the shop vac. I suspect that much of the finer dust goes right through that filter and is blown back into the air in my shop (in my garage). I am looking for way to get a higher quality filter into my dust collection system. I suspect, but do not know, that a cyclone type device will remove the larger particles but allow the finer dust to go on to the vacuum. And I seriously doubt that the filter in my shop vac removes any of the finer dust particles. So, my concern is that shop vac + cyclone still does not remove the finer dust particles. And those are the most harmful to my lungs as well as putting a fine coat of dust on everything in the shop. Thurman
