  1. Thanks all for your nice comments!
  2. Just the thing for us older folk whose brain needs some extra work to keep it working smoothly. It sure made my smile.
  3. Quarter inch BB with Red Gum (Australian Eucalyptus) veneer. My first attempt at veneering and there are a couple glue starved spots where small pieces of the veneer came off. My next project is a Clayton Boyer clock. Have spent quite a bit of time studying the patterns and instructions and am getting a little concerned I've bitten off more than I chew.
  4. This was my first issue so to soon to form an opinion on renewing when the time comes. It does contain a pattern by Fiona Kingdon I was considering buying so that is a plus.
  5. They claim these will hold up to 50 pounds - that may be a stretch but I have holding about 15+ pounds and there has been no problem. I got it at Home Depot.
  6. Is that a Fiona Kingdon pattern? I think it will be very fragile in just about any solid wood at 1/4" thick. 1/2" might be OK but 3/4" would be best in my opinion.
  7. My Hegner arrived about 5-6 weeks ago. Love it - it is much better than the DeWalt I had several years ago. Suggest you watch this video on blade tensioning -
  8. I know how those fellows in the boat feel. Got caught In the Yellow Sea in a shallow drafted ferry during a typhoon once - quite an experience.
  9. Lucky you. Have had mine only a couple months and could not be more pleased. It is a great saw.
  10. I'm impressed - next thing we know you will be scrolling something smaller than a lime bean.
  11. Thanks Scrappile - I too have a Hegner. Got it about 4 weeks ago and really like it.
  12. Absolutely great. Your conversion from the original is impressive.
  13. I am about to embark on Clayton Boyer's Woodoworker's Hygrometer. https://www.lisaboyer.com/Claytonsite/woodworkershygrometer.htm. I've never cut anything thicker than 1/4 inch. The frame for this is 3/4 BB. Suggestions for blade size and saw speed for this 3/4 material would be appreciated.
  14. Clocks are something that never really interested me, BUT, then that darned Scrappile (“Ugly Old Goat” ) posted the link to clock designs by Clayton Boyer. Now I’m hooked! Many are beatifically artistic as well as functional. And then there are his kinetic sculptures - I will have to attempt a couple of them also. Although I'm going to need a lot more experience before attempting one.
  15. Had a DeWalt scroll saw long ago. Made lots of jig saw puzzles and a few other things. Then after I retired moved to a place with a 24’ X 40 shop and 36 acres (my wife wanted horses), filled it with equipment and started making custom furniture. Then in about 2010 had to have 3 vertebrae fused. That help for about 7-8 years then problems returned and nothing more can be done. Sold all the tools and property and now live in a much more reasonable property in Ashland Oregon. Needed something to do and since the new house has a 8 X 12 shop area in the garage I bought a new scroll saw since that can be done sitting. (More than5 minutes on my feet and I’m in considerable pain.) Re-learning to use the saw has been reasonably fast so I’m about to embark on a real project - not sure what yet. Have ben looking through some online designs and may go with one of those. However, couple weeks ago a large truck (based on tire tracks) did lots of damage by driving in planted area between curb and sidewalk. The only damage on our property was a destroyed street number sign so maybe I’ll make replacing that the first real project. By the way I’m 81 and hope to show everyone old dogs can learn new tricks.
