Scrollshrimp

Hey everyone, been away for a few weeks and so I hope this finds you all well. This Lion has been an ongoing project for a couple of months on and off, finally finished it today. Made from a 3/4 inch thick bamboo chopping board with a thin backer board painted black. It measures approximately 16 inches by 14 inches. Pattern courtesy of the Scrollsaw Workshop. Regards, Alan.

Apologies ! You are correct, my AT535SS does have a tilting arm, not a tilting table, it's been a long day !

Hello Don, I have the AT535SS 21" scroll saw ( plus stand ) from Axminster tools here in the UK. I have had the saw for a couple of years now which I bought to replace an entry level 16" saw which I had been using. I am by no means an expert on scroll saws so all I can really offer are my own experiences so far. I don't know how the saw compares to say a DeWalt or Pegas for example as I have no experience with these saws. However, I am very happy with my AT535SS. I would say the saw has minimal vibration, is well built and quiet. The tilting table as opposed to a tilting arm is a nice feature which I prefer. The saw has the Pegas blade clamps as well which also seem of very good quality. I do not have a foot switch but may look into getting one in the future if they are available. The after sales service from Axminster tools is also very good, I also purchased one of their belt / disc sanders and have also found it to be a reliable machine for what I need. Sorry I cannot offer more "experienced scroll saw user " advice but I hope this helps in some way. Regards, Alan.

Hello all, The pattern for these Chinese symbols is from Steve Good's Scrollsaw Workshop, they are actually for making pendants but I thought I'd try something different. The main part is a block of offcut Cherry and I have absolutely no idea what the base is made from, again it's from the scrap bin. The 2 symbols mean love and family. Pegas reverse skip tooth no.3. I have the Axminster AT535SS bought here in the UK and I'm very happy with it. I think it is basically like the Excalibur but with the Pegas blade clamps. I'm no expert but would certainly recommend it.

Hey all, Made this Scrollshrimp logo to hang in my small workshop today. Not sure what the wood I used was but then added a backerboard to glue the shrimp pieces to and then a thin frame from a scrap of pine strip. I drew the shrimp pattern myself as you can probably tell ! Regards, Alan.

Hello all. While visiting a beautiful old Norman church with the wife a few days ago, I got to thinking if the patterns of the stained glass windows could be used in scroll saw patterns. I would have thought that it would be possible to cut a window pattern as a segmented or intarsia project if you had a good selection of different woods ( sort of like marquetry ). Another option maybe would be to cut the pieces out of say 1/4" birch plywood then paint the pieces before re assembly. My original idea was to cut just inside the line of each piece of glass then the lead that holds the glass in place would become a wooden frame around each piece. Sorry if this sounds confusing but I can't think of a better way to describe what I'm getting at ! Just wondered if anyone has tried this ? Regards, Alan.

Very nice, I wish I could get my bowls to turn out as good. Always seem to struggle with the angle for the thickness of wood I'm cutting.

Thank you meflick, I think the box itself may be cherry, not sure about the lid. It came from a box of offcuts that someone gave me.
