  1. Actual pattern-picture area 8x10 Another Steve Good pattern
  2. I'm guilty of "trying" to be a perfectionist with anything and everything and that usually leads to disappointment and most times losing interest and I don't want that to happen with my woodworking hobby like it has with so many other things. I don't remember where I saw this quote but I need to post it over my tools: (Perfection in the roadblock to progress)
  3. I get that and it's true for paintings as well but.... when I see some people's work up close it's damn near perfect. So did those people fine tune their cuts, was it accurate when finished, or is it because they've been at it for twenty years?? I'm of the belief if it's worth doing it's worth doing well...
  4. I look close at the pattern when it's being cut so I do the same when I'm finished. I ended up using my tiny sanding tools to fix straight aways and smooth out the choppy curves so it looked better. Taking my time didn't really improve my accuracy much. I was hoping to only knock off some fuzzies after scrolling not "repair" every cut. Was wondering why I even bothered and maybe just view it like a billboard, from a distance. Does everyone fine tune their cuts???
  5. I have to quit looking too close at it...
  6. Latest work... Didn't care how long it took this time. Mutant Baltic birch 1/4" had many variations of tight and loose in the layers and was a challenge. Even with touch up sanding it still doesn't measure up to the pattern. Guess I gotta keep practicing !
  7. I just stuck coloured construction paper under the project.
  8. The black backgrounds are starting to seem a little bla... Does anyone add some color?
  9. I'm not really in a hurry, I'm just trying to gauge my progress so far... If one of you could knock this pattern out in an hour then I know I have a very long way to go.
  10. After 6 weeks with my new hobby I was hoping to be a little faster at it. I did have some issues coming up with the correct blade to use but I'm totally embarrassed to admit it took me almost six hours to scroll this yesterday.
  11. I tried to give Michael's some business but $14 vs $4 for the same thing wasn't going to fly.
  12. Stopped by Hobby lobby today and picked up some of their inexpensive wood plaques to use for patterns to duplicate with a flush trim bit on my router. So much easier for frames than trying to cut those shapes any other way
  13. Steve Good
  14. Looks good... I just have vac hook ups on sanders and saws. I mask up and use a leaf blower to blow out the sawdust.
  15. Where is the pattern available???
  16. Steve Good pattern
  17. I'm wondering if I caused all of the stress of cutting those delicate areas on the butterflies by using 1/4" plywood instead of 3/4" solid wood like the pattern showed to use???
  18. Which background color?? OR, should I use multi colors???
  19. I've finally figured that part out but even with the thinnest blade it was nerve racking cutting at the top and bottom of those butterflies. I nicked one spot so I duplicated it on the other side to hide my flub.
  20. I am happy with it but, when I'm cutting intricate areas with sharp turns I'm always concerned that one slip will ruin it.
  21. Almost a month into my new hobby and not a lot to brag about but, with another scroll finished without ruining anything yet, is okay by me. (Knock wood)
  22. Very nice work... At 70, I probably don't have that much time left to ever accomplish those items you posted. I too have a few alphabet inflictions as well... ADD OCD, etc. I have the attention span of a nat and most new things I undertake are usually given up on for the next new thing. I'm hoping since I retired that woodworking can stand the test of time. I've made more things in the three short weeks with a scroll saw than almost a year of any other woodworking projects. I need to learn how to control the urge to hurry up and finish something...
  23. I have a lot to learn still... Still scroll at a snail's pace and used that particular blade because it leaves a smooth shiny surface. All turns are slow going until i gain more confidence. The mouse's feet were tiny tight areas and the tail to me, i thought was too fragile for an aggressive blade.
  24. Started out with Flying Dutchman #5 PGT but the mouse needed Olson 2R crown tooth. Was like chopping through a old log... I modified Steve's design because 3/4 stuck out too far from the molding so it was off to the bench belt sander to sand off a quarter inch. Would have been less dusty if I had a half inch board... Still learning!
  25. My wife and I have been volunteers and fosters for Min Pins for over twenty years and adopted seven of our own. The breed must not be popular enough to include them when it comes to pictures or patterns I could print. I took a picture and messed around with it turning it into B&W, and resized it and wasted a bunch of printer ink and paper until I was satisfied with the size. I wanted to make a light switch plate topper and I spent more time making a pattern than actually scrolling it. For what it's worth, here is what I came up with.
