  1. I've bought and returned the Wen and the Dewalt 734 planers before because I don't have a real dust collection system... Hear the Dewalt DW735X with it's powerful blower can be used without dust collection. What's really tempting is it's on sale -$180 off at Lowe's until the end of June. On Sale @ $599 with both tables and extra set of blades... Being a beginner using mostly the scroll saw projects 98% of the time I think I would feel guilty spending that amount of cash...
  2. Never used shellac before, still kinda new with woodworking so I might give that a try. I did lightly sand with 400 then 800 to try and smooth things out but the rough patches were on the inside so it was a pain to do. It looks better as long as it's not vied too close
  3. I don't really like scrolling the 3/4 Basswood anyway.
  4. Tried to paint a couple of mini statue like scroll saw projects. Done wasting my time and ruining materials. Sanding will never get a smooth uniform result on the cut grain.
  5. My All Time Favorite Action Hero Is 94 Years Young Today!
  6. Just wondering. Thought kinda young for a small business owner but hey, what do I know
  7. Your dob in your profile shows you're only 15??
  8. 99% of any cuttings have black felt behind, then a backing so loose pieces are a pain. I'm still learning and projects need to be simple, like me
  9. Looks interesting but afraid there's not much holding the uncut area in place. I've ruined one before that had that type pattern.
  10. We lost two seniors dogs #5 & #6 a few months apart, March/April Our four year old Min Pin Aries is the last of seven dogs we adopted over the years. Would like to have a pattern that's not too complex for a new scroller to cut. Any input would be most appreciated. Thanks!
  11. Cheap Ryobi band saw table adjustment question: I can adjust the table to the blade 90 degrees left & right But, how can I get it 90 degrees front to back? I did a band saw box before a while back where the drawer would fall out the back but was too tight to come out the front as it should?
  12. I know what you mean about outside noise. I'm a early bird and since it's not freezing ass cold in the shop I sometimes scroll around 4 or 5 am.. New neighbors have two obnoxious hound dogs that bark loudly outside my window and they seem to start right when I'm cutting a tedious section.
  13. Selective deafness, I ike that
  14. Been scrolling only nine months and I tried listening to music of all types through speakers and headphones but I still prefer to listen to the saw do it's job. I just can't focus with distractions of any kind. Maybe when I get more experience and confidence that will change. How about you?
  15. Use it 1/8 up to 3/4 and get clean easy cuts.
  16. Steve Good design, works like a champ!
  17. Awesome project!
  18. So for what's it's worth, I finally printed and re-sized the image to make a switch plate topper. It wasn't too difficult to cut if I took my time and was careful. Here it is.........
  19. Tried that also..... And the winner is.... I saved the image as a pdf and it finally printed. Old guy using an old printer on an old pc.
  20. Found a b&w line drawing pic I wanted to scroll. Do a screenshot open in photoshop save as jpeg gif tiff png formats and my printer shoots out a blank sheet of paper every time. No matter what program that opens it, nothing prints. Happens all the time and drives me nuts. Why?
  21. Well done, I truly admire your perseverance, I would never even attempt such a project since I have the attention span of a gnat!
  22. Too late, it went into the fire pit.... Live & hopefully learn...
  23. Don't know what the wood thickness the pencil holder was supposed to be. This was 3/8"
  24. I'm beginning to wonder if any of the patterns in these fancy books are ever cut by the designer. I cut 2 of the four sides first to check the pattern out. Am I missing something, am I that stupid? How is this supposed to fit???
  25. Guess I need to look closer at the patterns I'm thinking about cutting. This was the first pattern I came across that had so called "floaters" and I'm glad it was spotted so I could cut it differently so I didn't have to keep track of little pieces of my project. It would be a total pain to have little pieces to deal with since I isually use a colored felt behind the cutting... What about you????
