  1. Only would watch finish dry if it was a choice between that and sports.
  2. I never watch sports of any kind... Won't waste a nano second watching a bunch of over paid cry babies playing a game. Rather watch the finish on my projects dry!
  3. Since I don't waste my time watching any sports I decided to do my new favorite time killer, working in the shop (Scrolling something) Decided on this SG rabbit pattern. Reduced in size by 20% to fit a scrap of 3/8" canary wood I had laying around.
  4. Ran out of 3/4" basswood. Oh well, more is on order!!
  5. Very nice... Mind blowing detail !
  6. That is a fantastic project... I'm blown away seeing the creative endeavors by so many gifted artisans. ~~~~~ Inspirational ! Would love a plane pattern like that for my Nephew who just became a commercial pilot
  7. That's beautiful and I'm sure it will be treasured!
  8. Those are from Jean-Bernard Germe's book: Wooden People & Pets I got on Amazon. It's an okay book but most of the images had to be enlarged to a better size.
  9. Very nice .... I'm starting to like scrolling those little people recentyl and those frogs sre super cute. Pattern??
  10. Very creative design and the colors pop. Don't know about those footprints though
  11. Decided to start using some wood from my Ocooch order and used 3/4" Basswood for the first time. Used an Olson #5 12TPI 9R PGT and it cut nice and clean but was not a fan of the way the dense sawdust was hard for the blower to remove from the cut line. Looking forward to trying out some of the hardwoods instead!
  12. I have others that I will give them around the holidays!
  13. Went to the vet's office to pick up some meds for one of our four legged dependents and decided to drop off a half dozen cat & dog related scrolled items for their office. They acted like I was handing out gold and super excited to receive them. Their reaction made my time and effort all worth it!
  14. I had a small piece of 1/4" BB with the shelf paper already on it so I tried another SG pattern... Happy with just about anything scrolled that doesn't end up in the burn barrel!
  15. After being satisfies with the second attempt of this SG pattern, I wish I paid more attention to the pattern. The example in the picture of (not mine) finished product shows more space at the bottom under the circles. After cutting mine I didn't like how close those circles were to the bottom but that was how the pattern looked. Probably not a big deal but wish I had noticed so I could have easily left as much space as I wanted if I had just modified the pattern. Lesson learned I guess. Anyone modify someone else's patterns??
  16. I tried this pattern the other day with 1/2" BB plywood and it ended up in the burn barrel. So today I cut it with a simple piece of 3/4" pine board and brush painted it brown. Now I'm happy!
  17. I guess it was posted in the wrong place. I'm generally pleased with my 2 month rookie progress so far but something would have to be over the top for me to actually brag about it.
  18. "Another" Steve Good design cut out on a hellishly hard pine board... Wondered to myself afterwards why I bothered to spend so much time painting the insides of the eyes black instead of leaving the bare wood look.
  19. I have a few hundred dollars worth of I guess you could call it exotic wood coming soon from Ocooch Hardwoods... Not about to waste any expensive wood so I figured it was time for more practice. My mother in law gave me some 1 inch thick cedar planks that were in her garage probably 20 years and although straight, they were super dry and hard. Since I never tried stack cutting or even wrapping a project with packing tape it was time to give it a shot. I still had that maple leaf pattern I traced from the leaf found on the ground so this would be my first time making a box with that leaf design using 1/4" ply on the top and bottom with that brick hard cedar sandwiched inside. The biggest blade was a #7 it got it done but it was slow going through 1-1/2"... So I surprised myself trying something new that turned out okay I guess. Put some wipe on poly and calling it done!
  20. It's funny when I look at it with the pattern removed the lines look wavy like it was scrolled poorly but, Steve's pattern is actually created that way and viewers are not aware of that info.
  21. Right on both counts...
  22. Found a maple leaf in the yard, used a glue stick to hold it down to trace outline, spray glued it to a board and scrolled it in less than 5 minutes. Since I wasn't overthinking every turn as I usually do, I was spinning and cutting like a seasoned pro. It could have been because I wasn't too concerned if it got messed up but it was good practice for making better turns with confidence.. Figured I might as well draw some veins and scroll them too... Then what the heck, throw some color on it too!
  23. Sounds good, I'll have to give that a try, thanks!
  24. Another Steve Good design finished over the weekend and I spent way too much time and trouble... I hate to scroll ovals, especially two with one being slightly larger for the backer. Nothing seemed to go right. Drilled the entry holes a tad too little in the tight spots and bent new blades trying to bottom feed. I ran an old blade in first to make the holes a bit larger and it helped "some" of the time. Got so pissed I loosened the clamps and tried to snatch the bent blade out but, forgot to loosen the bottom one and sliced my thumb. Good thing the blades have small teeth. It kept going downhill when the flat black paint on the wood backer showed fish eyes and had to repaint even though the wood was prepped properly. I also wanted to line the backer up to have an even reveal all around and didn't want to chance it with glue and have it set up before I got it centered. So, I ended up using double stick tape which let me move it around before I put the pressure on it. Whew, didn't mean to write a book but sometimes something that I thought would be easy to do ends up kicking my butt!!!
  25. Made a couple 2x4 hide-a-ways Used my band saw to slice off the thick sides of the 2x4 then the scroll saw did a better job of cutting out the curves needed for the drawers. Neat place to stash valuables in plain sight in the work shop as long as you don't accidentally toss them out!!
