  1. Yes, it's the outer dimension on a 1/4" Baltic birch panel with no mat and wanting a 1/4" space between the artwork and the frame interior. I have a router table and cut rabbets before with some trial and error cutting them before frame is assembled. Tired of spending hours making firewood
  2. 7-3/4" x 10-3/8"
  3. No two frames would be the same.
  4. After For example..
  5. Read it three times... Speed square, rabbet, rince & repeat got through...
  6. With A D D it's extremely difficult learning new things and have made more stupid ass mistakes than I will share. Cutting accurate miters is just part of the equation. I genuinely suck at measuring and will need to learn the proper way to come up with frame sizes without any mats. Some YouTube videos require an engineering degree. I need instructions a cave man can follow
  7. Over the last 10 months I've been busy trying to learn about woodworking and discovered what I like best are scroll sawing projects. I've learned a lot so far but have a very long way to go. I think I'm trying too many different things rather than learning how to do one thing well first. Need to stay off YouTube.... Just finished making a table saw picture framing jig/sled. Of course now I need to learn how to make some frames, or maybe not. How many of you make your own frames??
  8. Made a back fence today... Didn't need to be as high as I made it since it will only be used for picture frame but I figured what the heck...
  9. Slowly trying to gather the tools I think will need. Didn't add a fence at the front because it will not only add more weight but would be useless one the blade passes through it because it can't be dropped on from the top and clear the blade and riving knife.
  10. My sorry ass attempt to use only for picture frames if I ever learn how to make them. Probably used a cheap square to reference the blade. The painter's tape saved me from beating the glued rails from the sled for yet another do over. I have a lot to learn.
  11. Spent more time than I will admit finally making a picture frame jig sled. Many attempts trying to get the angles right with a few do overs dealing with glue that was set and pulling up some ply vaneer. I still had to use painters tape to shim one side to get a decent, hopefully acceptable miter. The YouTube videos make it look easy. Didn't know if the inside or outside of the miter was the most important!
  12. I've bought and returned the Wen and the Dewalt 734 planers before because I don't have a real dust collection system... Hear the Dewalt DW735X with it's powerful blower can be used without dust collection. What's really tempting is it's on sale -$180 off at Lowe's until the end of June. On Sale @ $599 with both tables and extra set of blades... Being a beginner using mostly the scroll saw projects 98% of the time I think I would feel guilty spending that amount of cash...
  13. Never used shellac before, still kinda new with woodworking so I might give that a try. I did lightly sand with 400 then 800 to try and smooth things out but the rough patches were on the inside so it was a pain to do. It looks better as long as it's not vied too close
  14. I don't really like scrolling the 3/4 Basswood anyway.
  15. Tried to paint a couple of mini statue like scroll saw projects. Done wasting my time and ruining materials. Sanding will never get a smooth uniform result on the cut grain.
  16. My All Time Favorite Action Hero Is 94 Years Young Today!
  17. Use it 1/8 up to 3/4 and get clean easy cuts.
  18. Awesome project!
  19. Well done, I truly admire your perseverance, I would never even attempt such a project since I have the attention span of a gnat!
  20. Guess I need to look closer at the patterns I'm thinking about cutting. This was the first pattern I came across that had so called "floaters" and I'm glad it was spotted so I could cut it differently so I didn't have to keep track of little pieces of my project. It would be a total pain to have little pieces to deal with since I isually use a colored felt behind the cutting... What about you????
  21. I learn something new every day... Never heard of s floater... Don't like that ... Luckily it was caught in time, no floater!
  22. I was cutting a pattern from the pattern library and ran across something that didn't look right... When I got to a section on the hair I saw two pieces that looked as if it wouldn't be attached anywhere if I cut them as the pattern showed. Ended up cutting it different but since so much had been already removed it's barely hanging on. Thought I would mention it if someone wants to cut this particular pattern...
  23. Would you paint the little heart red?
  24. Found and printed out this image on Pinterest. Even though the outline was a tad too thick to scroll I just went down the middle of the thick line, not too much fun. Anyway... Should I leave the Basswood base natural as it is now or just paint it black to match???
  25. Decided on a simple butt joint frame of a pine 1x2 with just some coats of wipe on poly, nothing fancy since I didn't want the frame to be a focal point. I listened to the comments about projects looking better framed without glass and they were right, no glass!
