  1. I'll add mats to my odd size projects, if you'll make the frames for me!
  2. All of my projects so far have a piece of semi rigid jet black felt taped to the back (I like the look) Don't care for the look of adding another piece of anything to the back especially trying to sandwich the felt in between unless it was framed and hides the edges but I refuse to fool with frame making, life's too short!
  3. None of my projects are of standard size for off the shelf frames.
  4. Yesterday I mounted my seven 1/4" ply scrolled images of my dogs with the 10 or 12lb strips, can't remember. One on the top and one on the bottom. They all had rigid black felt taped to the back and they still stuck on the strips fine. Using a laser level was really handy especially since all of the frames were of different dimensions.
  5. Command velcro picture hanging strips.. strong and damage free removal from the wall. Works great...
  6. A little over a week of scrolling in between 100 degree temps in the workshop and I finally finished scrolling images of our six dogs of the past and the 7th who's still with us. I suck at trying to make frames and refuse to put myself through attempting them any longer. I like the look as is anyway so I used Command Velcro picture hanging strips and mounted them to the wall since they don't weigh much of anything. Wish I would have thought of making them all close to being the same size but oh well, they're done! Again, thanks to grandpa for the patterns and putting up with me...
  7. Thanks... I was working on auto pilot, didn't really have any plans as usual. The top across was 1/8" shorter than the bottom across, whatever that means...
  8. First attempt at making a mitered picture frame. Good miters not quite square!
  9. Been busy at the scroll saw this month scrolling grandpa's patterns of our seven Min Pins past & present. Now it's time to take a break and give my old back some needed rest.
  10. Been busy this month on the scroll saw. Scrolled dog # six this morning. Only one more to do... Struggling using a new roll of shelf paper with strong adhesive wanting to lift off the veneer on the Baltic birch plywood. Had to be careful and sand to 800 grit and remove with the grain... Thanks again to grandpa for the pattern!
  11. I only had photography as a hobby for too many years to count. I suck at trying to build things because I have the attention span of a knat but found scrolling doable and could understand directions from the good people in this group. Never really got much from the YouTube videos. I agree, giving away my work is rewarding and doubtful if I'd ever sell anything.
  12. So help this clueless woodworker out determining the grain direction on Baltic birch plywood.. Left to right OR Right to left ???
  13. I'll go with a finer grain next time and that's a good idea not to blow off the fine dust. The panel did feel a little sticky in some places. I scrolled in the same heat a few days ago and didn't have this problem. No mineral spirits for me. Maybe I'm just still green yet.
  14. Great advise as usual... i sanded only to 400 and should have paid attention to grain direction. Hadn't thought about using heat I was actually thinking about adding cold to it next time but wondered if that would be worse.
  15. It was about 80 degrees in the shop this morning and humidity was way up there.. Tough to move the wood on the cast iron table so I had to toss some corn starch on it so I could turn it. I've uses this clear shelf paper many times but the last few uses it was pulling the plywood's veneer loose so there's tiny pieces pulled away which I sanded in the direction to keep more from being pulled loose. It's like the shelf paper had Super 77 sprayed on it and even left a film. Wondering if the hear & humidity has anything to do with it. It still turn out okay as long as you don't look too close with the light raking across it... Again, thanks to grandpa for the pattern!
  16. We have pictures on display all over the house and these scrolled images will be a welcome addition.
  17. Our late dog Pippin's image was scrolled today... That's four dogs done and three more to go.. Thanks again "grandpa" for the pattern...
  18. Next month will mark one year that I bought my Dewalt scroll saw and joined this great community of people. I've made quite a few projects in that time and received very helpful, valuable information from the members here. Just wanted to thank you all very much and special thanks to "grandpa" for his time and effort putting up with me to get some beautiful patterns of our Min Pins, past & present. You all Rock!!
  19. Placed many orders for project ready wood but have not had good luck with the exotics. Canarywood, Cherry, Wenge and especially Padauk always come cupped right out of the stack. I tried the stickers, re-moistened with weight but no luck. They have sent replacements n/c on some but they aren't much better. Guess I'll just stick to my Baltic birch plywood since I don't make anything special anyway. Good Luck!
  20. Hot & dry in Maryland and the workshop/garage is steamy which is still better than touching a 28 degree scroll saw table any day. Destroyed one project and just finished a few portraits of some of my dogs thanks to grampa for making a few patterns for me.
  21. Guess I shouldn't complain since it's better than freezing ass cold like it was in February when the cast iron scroll saw table was a little chilly on the hands!
  22. Since I'm up at the crack of dawn every morning it's a great time to work in the shop before the afternoon heat arrives. A Steve Good pattern scrolled on 1/4" Baltic birch...
  23. I think I will just stick to scrolling pieces that don't need a frame since it's obvious I'm not up to the task of making any. Made a table saw 45 degree sled. Cut one side with the left angle cut the mate with the other angle and the miter looks good (on the reverse side) Made a frame and the miters weren't tight but since it was being painted the minor gaps were filled. Worst part measuring across: Top is 1/8" wider than the bottom. Dealing with OCD & ADD is a nightmare (Rush to do something and can't concentrate to get anything done)
  24. I've watched plenty of videos on how to CUT miters for picture frames but very few that explain the math to show WHERE to cut them except the ones that engineering majors post. So I guess coming up with a simple EASY to follow formula to make a frame for a 1/4" panel with NO mat remains a mystery. Most of my woodworking skills have been trial and error anyway...
  25. Got prices from Michael's before and it was way to expensive. I can fuxk up a lot of wood experimenting cheaper.
