Has anyone tried using a cheap finger pump misting spray bottle to spray tung oil? To wipe or brush an oil on some of my scroll works would cause a problem especially on the inside cuts. I think the oil would run on the frets if I brush and I don't think wiping would work either. I thought about buying a misting spray bottle and trying that to spray the Tung oil. I don't think I would try using my air sprayer for this. Larry

You kinda lost me. I guess you're talking about buying a frame and using it for a frame around a scroll sawn portrait. Well, no solution from me ... but a couple stupid suggestions (that won't work or satisfy what you want). 1) If you can, route the groove deeper 2) make your own frame Actually what I do is: Make the scroll work a frame with the portrait scrolled in the frame. This requires strategic planning of bridges or braces to hold the pattern you are cutting to the frame. No glass when you do this. Then I add a piece on the back to accentuate and support the cuts. Here is a little more confusion on how to size your 'shop made' frame. If you know the size of the picture you are framing. Frame stock width, subtract the rabbet width, multiply by 2, add to height and width of picture. Frame stock width = 2", minus 1/2" rabbet = 1 1/2" X 2 = 3". 8" X 10" picture, outside measurement of the frame will be 11" X 13". You can always add 1/16" if you want the frame a little loose. Use any numbers you want, just follow the formula. (Mike wrote this formula, blame him, not me) Have fun... whew...that was fun Larry

I use double stick tape between the stacks. On the larger projects, I use Press&Seal (has to be rolled on) Otherwise, blue painters tape Spray adhesive for pattern. Clear packing tape over the pattern and around the edges of the stack to help the double stick tape hold. It works for me. But I might try the glue gun thing.

I was in Walmart today and found Rust-Oleum Special spray lacquer for $3.67 EACH. I've been paying about 8.50 for a different brand of lacquer at the hardware stores. I just tried the Rust-Oleum lacquer and it looks good. SO stay away from 'MY' Walmart. I'm going back and buy the rest of whats there.

Hi, I'm Larry from upstate New York. Not really new to scrolling, been cutting for 5 , 6 years or so. Always liked working with wood. Frustrating at times but when' the project is finished, you see why you started. I've restored furnature, built rustic furniture, rocking chairs, minature log cabins,,,,etc. Traded one of my log cabins for a piece of scroll work . Looked at the scroll work and said, 'I'd like to try that'. Now, I might never stop. I'm blessed with knowing furniture makers, saw mill operators and some others where I get scrap wood for my sawing. I get birdseye,curly,tiger maple, walnut, some mahogany, spanish cedar and oak, pine and others. I'm self taught but still wish someone was around to to give me tips because I know there is still lots I have to learn. Thanks for listening...... Larry

Hi Donna, Got to say, 'Welcome', to scroll sawing! A finished scroll work is a pleasure. To see what you can cut from a piece of pallet wood and have it be a Christmas Gift will warm your heart. One of the best tips and tricks is, 'Just keep scrolling'. The more you do, the more you learn and the better you get. I never quit learning. I hang my mistakes on the side of my garage and I like the way they look. Cut what you like. Larry

I have a friend who is a retired fireman. He has done me a lot of favors. I would like to cut a fire man pattern for him. Something generic; Firemans motto? Firemans insigna? Helmet? I'm not sure what except I want something nice. Now for some reason, I don't waqnt a fire truck. Does anyone have something? Sorry, I don't have a picture. Thanks all, Larry
