  1. Fantastic work!!
  2. There is a trick to the scroll saw. You need to have the right combo of: 1- blade 2- wood thickness 3- speed. If the current speed sort of scares you and you are worried about getting your fingers near the blade, then slow it down to where it is comfortable. It will lessen the vibrations and give you better control. If you have a giant thick blade on thin wood then that combo is off. Imagine you are cutting veneer with a big old saw from the garage, it will splinter and break and make a mess. Now if you had a fine toothed saw and the right amount of pressure and speed then it will look great. There is a chart around here somewhere that explains the right sized blades for the wood you are working with. if you cant find it here just goolge it.
  3. I have no idea what the legalities involved are but do have some thoughts on the subject. Think about tattoos. You can get a mickey mouse tattoo that clearly says disney right above it and looks just like mickey. Disney wont make you carve it off your arm nor will they pursue the tattoo artist. I imagine if you posted that they were offically licensed portaits of the celeb then of course that would not be allowed understandably. Look up something like bugs bunny on ebay and you will see all sorts of homemade bugs bunnys and they clearly monitor their posts for what is and what is not allowed.
  4. Take a look at the wood before you even start. Mine has sort of a fuzz of tiny splinters all over it if I dont address it. I use a pre stain type stuff which brings up the grain and then I sand it down real good. To attach the pattern I use spray glue, a very light coat so it comes off easily. very light being the key. too much and it stick on there and you have to sand it off which creates a whole new problem. No burrs or tiny splinters anymore.
  5. I use the aquarium pump. bought the cheapest one at walmart. I stuffed the end of a pen in the hose to make it more of a point then I taped it to the existing tube so its like a double air type thing. works great.
  6. Obviously the solution here is to move the scroll saw into the air conditioned house.
  7. Lower the speed down to the slowest it can go. Also start with the tension way looser then you normally would have it. Tighten it up as you get going.
  8. Never used lube, just buy more blades.
  9. I get mine from a place called bens scroll saw online. He has all the sizes I need as I need really small sizes. I use 1/8" bb for all my stuff and use a jewelers drill for the holes. Works great and no special chuck needed as its designed for this size but. I use #72's. They can be used with a 2/0 reverse blade and smaller.
  10. I have a local place here in San Diego that specializes in selling to cabinet makers and the like. Search around fr something like that as they will have alot of specialty type woods yu cand find elsewhere.
  11. Right handed, clockwise
  12. The only stuff i have even sold was the things I really did not want to make in the first place.
  13. Outstanding work. That is really something. well done!!
  14. I cant figure out the spirals. i am a flat blade guy all the way.
  15. I made a couple things but dont have anyone to give them to. Seemed like a fun project. http://i1323.photobu...zpsf395ce5e.jpg http://i1323.photobu...zpsd6a2c5a8.jpg
  16. I use spray glue but a bit different way. i just barely spray it on to the pattern, maybe 1 second total spary time froma good distance away. The I put in onto the wood. This way it is barely on there but plenty enough to get the job done. Falls right off when the project is done. i do some fine life stuff so if it gets stuck on there I really cant afford to sand or scrape to get it off. If the paper is wet with glue it will stick and you wont be able to get it off. i should just be a mist of glue.
  17. I use spray glue but a very, very thingh coating of it. No more then 1 second of spraying for the whole sheet. it will be tacky enough. If there are wet spots on the paper it will stick too much and wont come off easily. it doesnt have to be on there for long. just long enough for me to cut the pattern out.
  18. I have an airbruch on order myself. Thanks for the tips.
