Travis Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Howdy. I got an email from someone who had a pattern making question. Tonight I'm going to put together a quick video tutorial for them. I figured if anybody else had a question on using Inkscape, I can quickly cover that too. It's more of a "How do I __________" type of question. So if you have a burning Inkscape question, post it below and I'll see if I can cover it in the video. Quote
robbert100 Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 How do you save Inkscape images as jpeg? Quote
Travis Posted June 13, 2014 Author Report Posted June 13, 2014 I can do that. Any other questions? I'll probably shoot the video this weekend. Quote

Travis Posted June 20, 2014 Author Report Posted June 20, 2014 Travis, Can you explain how to take letters from a word as individual items.? take care Don W Sure thing. Check out the second video in this article. The process is called Breaking Apart. Breaking Apart After typing your text, you can break apart the letters and move them around individually. This gives you the most control over the placement of the lettering. You can break apart individual letters into their separate shapes. This is useful when dealing with the dot of an i or j. Type your text in choice of font. Go to Path>Object To Path. This will change your text into a collection of objects. It still looks like one large object instead of a collection of objects because they are grouped and treated as an object. To ungroup, go to Object>Ungroup. Now each of the letters are its own object. Deselect all the objects. Then select one of the letters and position or alter them as needed. Once all the letters are in place, select all the objects and go to Path>Union to weld the letters together. Quote
don watson Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Thanks Travis, I was looking for a way to take the letters from a picture. I have a logo I want to manipulate and I was wondering if I could copy the letters and cut them from the background. I am having a problem trying to put a picture here so I will leave it for a while. Thanks again take care Don W Quote
don in brooklin on Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 HI Travis I just downloaded version 48.4 as I had to do a complete refresh on my computer. Now the toolbar is on the right side. Can this be put on top like before or can you modify the icons. I like the align and distribute easily available. Can I bring up align and distribute with hot keys. Thanks Don Quote

heppnerguy Posted November 8, 2014 Report Posted November 8, 2014 the one thing I can't figure out in Inkscape is how to erase part of an existing line so as to eliminate an island Dick heppnerguy Quote
Tdub4ever Posted November 9, 2014 Report Posted November 9, 2014 Hey Dick. If you erase an existing line wouldn't that create an island? Quote
Travis Posted November 12, 2014 Author Report Posted November 12, 2014 You can cover it up with a white shape. That might be your best bet. Otherwise, erasing a line creates an incomplete object. Post the SVG and we can take a look at it. Quote
heppnerguy Posted November 14, 2014 Report Posted November 14, 2014 I wanted to erase a small part of an existing line. I have been covering it with a white line already. thought there might be a better way. Thanks Dick heppnerguy Quote
