greasemonkeyredneck Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 I was curious. The other day, my shop stereo finally bit the dust. No, I mean literally. After taking it apart to try and fix, I found out all the sawdust in it and made it crap out. Anyway, I run my speaker wires into the front room so I could bring over an old stereo I have at the house and it would be somewhat protected from the dust. This is a huge home stero unit that now sits comfrtably in the showroom, and is hooked up to five huge speakers in the rafters at different points in my shop. So, after getting all this done, I worked happily yesterday with CCR (Creedance Clearwater Revival for anyone that doesn't know what CCR is) blaring into my shop. What I was curious about is if anyone listens to music while they work, like me. If so, what do you all listen too? By the way, I'm a country music fan, but a little CCR, Jimmy Buffet, Eagles, or Lynard Skynard gets me moving too. Quote
Vector01 Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 Yep...Me Too. Skynnard, Doors, CCR, Temptations, 4Tops, Joe Crocker, Chicago, Steppenwolf, Santana, etc. I've been around a while so I like the older stuff Quote
Travis Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 I don't have a stereo in the shop. I usually end up listening to my ipod. I'm not much of a music aficionado. I like music, but I tire of it quickly. I actually prefer silence so I can be alone with my thoughts (I don't even listen to anything in the car). But when I do listen to something, I listen to podcasts about my interests (Home Brewing, Wood Working, World Of Warcraft, and Board Gaming). I also enjoy listening to audio books. Quote
ugsduck Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 I listen to a classical music station on the digital radio whilst working on projects. I dont usually bother with classical music at any other time preferring country music but find that having classical music in the background helps me to concentrate as it thoroughly relaxes me. Quote
paul44224 Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 I always have the radio on. One of 2 stations. One plays mostly 60's, and the other plays 70's/80's classic rock. I was a teenager in the 60's. Rock on ! Once in a great while, I do listen to some country. Paul Quote
Christina Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Depends on my mood at the time! I love old rock......70's mostly but I like a little of everything lol. I love blues especially and I'm not above some good classical.I like some of the new music too.....Rob Thomas, Creed, Three Doors Down...........none of the head banger stuff, I'll leave that to my son. And sometimes I like silence or just the tv on..........I saw in my living room. I can't stand opera or heavy metal. As I said it just depends on my mood at the time. Christina Quote
yost69 Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 But when I do listen to something, I listen to podcasts about my interests (Home Brewing quote] Hmmmm.... Bootleggin? ............................................................... I have xm in the shop. Well sirrius now, stupid thing. Anywho, I listen to Hairnation. I used to listen to the boneyard on xm but when sirrius bought out xm they did away with it for awhile. Now they have it back but it is not the same programming as it was. When xm had boneyard it was a mix of Hard Metal and 80's rock, now it is just hard metal. I like metal but not all of it. Hairnation is 80's rock hence the name. I like it but wish they would mix in some metal with it. Ben Quote
Charise2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 since my scroll saw workshop is actually in my house and beside the downstairs rec room I can actually turn the saw to face the tv and so I tend have that on lol Quote
amazingkevin Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 My favorite is christian worhship and praise with all the talk that goes with those stations.Soothing to the soul.No more screemin and hollarin hard rock anymore ,keeps me on edge.Lots of days i listen to it,(c.w.p) 24-7 but sometimes not at all.Everyday is differant,so i go with the flow. Thanks for asking Quote
frieke Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 When i come out of bed i put the radio on, it's mostly '70 '80 and '90 they play, but my favorite is U2, Simple Minds, CCR , and good old rock, like also blues, and the beat of heavy guitars and drums. In Belgium we also have very good singers and groups, i don't know if you ever heard about them.... So i can't live without music , also in the car. I don't like classic stuff, to boring for me. Marshall Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 When I scroll I like to listen to the old Rock-n-Roll brother for there's no other kind of music , sure not any of that Rap-Crap for sure........Marshall Quote

Dan Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 Baseball during the summer, football during the winter, basketball NEVER (boring), classic rock when no sports, sometimes NPR. I listen to Garrison Keillor on Saturday evening. Oh, yeah, every once in a while the wife will interrupt my therapy with a call for dinner. Quote
shadylady0447 Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 I don't listen to music while I'm cutting. I love all kinds of music but I have to move with it.....not good for sawing! I was a teenager in the early 60's so rock'n roll is always a favorite....the louder the better. Love the big band sound, blues and jazz. I was born too late...I like stuff like Jumpin' Jack Flash and Minnie the Moocher! Don't care too much for the acid rock....AC/DC - Back in Black makes me drive way too fast! LOL My kids loved it...turned a boring 4 hour trip to Gramma and Grampa's house into 3 1/2 or less! So when I'm at the saw I prefer my own thoughts! Quote
greasemonkeyredneck Posted October 28, 2009 Author Report Posted October 28, 2009 I've been following this and reading what everyone listens to. I guess I just love music in general. I love Hank Sr, Merle (the Hag), Waylon, and Willie. The next day I may be listening to CCR, Jerry Lee or Chuck Berry. Then again, some other days, I do crank up AC/DC, Guns and Roses, and such. I love Stevie Ray Vaughan. I guess the only thing I refuse to listen to is rap. I used to say I'd lever listen to classical. Then after my daughter started band, I learned to appreciate some of that too. I have over 4000 songs on my computer I ripped from my CDs. I have over 200 cassette tapes I'm in the process of transferring to CD. If I ever get that done, I have more than a handful of 8tracks I need to find a way of transferring. I grew up listening to nothing but bluegrass and gospel. From there, I went music crazy. Although my woodworking hobby forced the sale of my guitars, I used to enjoy jamming a little with the acoustic, electric and electric bass. Music is a standard in my shop. What kind of music is only restricted by my mood. Quote
Marshall Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 ... not any of that Rap-Crap for sure........Marshall Hmmm....funny. I would have pegged you for an Eminem, Puff Daddy, Snoop Dogg fan. I hate to bust your bubble Travis , but NOT............... Quote
OkieArkie Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 I have a sirsus radio that I keep on all the time in the shop. I listen to CNBC to know just how bad the poltico's, Dems and RePugs, are hurting my retirement funds, but mostly I listen to old tyme radio, folk music, old time rock, 50's and 60's, old time country music. I'm one of those guys that radio does not distractme, but actually it focuses me and lets me concentrate on the work at hand. Quote
