Multifasited Posted January 2, 2015 Report Posted January 2, 2015 This was my largest attempt at making a Sun's rays style main background for a elevated (3-D) style piece ,shaping and tapering the central subject ,This was made from shelving board ,angles and squareness of the blade to the table ,as well as warpless stock ,I soon found out are major issues ,as well as fast and accurate assembly on a flat surface and minimum glue squeeze out & fast even clamp up are fun when your working alone . then downward pressing to keep from cupping as side clamping tightens . separation still snuck in . Makes for an unique project though .Very time consuming a lot of planning as you can imagine ! Rob Roy, amazingkevin and me5269 3 Quote

wombatie Posted January 2, 2015 Report Posted January 2, 2015 What a unique piece. You say that it was time consuming, how long did it take? Marg Quote
amazingkevin Posted January 2, 2015 Report Posted January 2, 2015 I would have tried a Hugh rubber band to hold it together but what do i know.Very well done Carl by a master! This is the highlight of the day!Seems like an impossible glueing up job! Quote
Multifasited Posted January 2, 2015 Author Report Posted January 2, 2015 (edited) Marge ,better part of a day ,Like a giant math problem ,after figuring out the angle and the size ,and how to set up the saw safely etc .it was a real exercise in ok, now what ,and how ,corrections and more corrections at most stages .Like I said I learned a lot ! Like, Edison ,first I learned many ways to not make it work , till I learned all the parameters required .once that was done it's a pc of cake ,much like eating and elephant ! The next day a couple hrs. Once it's all together and flat then you can shape it . Same angle you pick just different lengths for your planned shape !Lot's of fun ,keeps the old grey matter working ! Your making a circle ,no matter what shape you want to end up with ! Edited January 2, 2015 by Multifasited Quote
amazingkevin Posted January 2, 2015 Report Posted January 2, 2015 Sounds like you enjoyed every minute of it! Quote
Scrolling Steve Posted January 2, 2015 Report Posted January 2, 2015 Wow!.........Very impressive!...Nice Work Carl! Quote
Multifasited Posted January 2, 2015 Author Report Posted January 2, 2015 This piece is interesting to me ,every pc is cut on a bias includes many different grain patterns ,knots ,1/2 knots ,1/4 knots ,color variations ,straight & wandering grain patterns and differing effects possible for differing effects for future projects and type wood needed to do it ! Yes ,Kevin ,I enjoyed it ,at least most of it ,You can see vividly the difference in the degree of angles sizes makes in results ,I recommend a new fine tooth blade ,when cutting the angles and great care on saw safety !
