campasano Posted June 20, 2015 Report Posted June 20, 2015 After 68 years of woodworking I must sadly say that I need to stop creating wood items. It seems that all of those years of breathing in toxic sawdust it has weakened my lungs and I have developed a chronic cough and trouble breathing, I was advised by my doctor to retire from woodworking, I have decided to take his advice. Over the next couple of months, I will be selling my tools, woodworking books and plans. I will continue to pop in occassionaly as I truly enjoy looking at everyone's creations. It has been a pleasure interfacing with the many members on the forum. Mike ChelCass 1 Quote

Scrappile Posted June 20, 2015 Report Posted June 20, 2015 Sorry to read this. Something we all will face at some point for one reason or another. I wish I had a close realitive to pass my tools on to when I have to retire from it. None of them show that much interest now. Quote

jamminjack Posted June 20, 2015 Report Posted June 20, 2015 Sad news indeed. Unfortunately this is a problem we will all have to face sooner or later. All of us who have worked in wood working all of our lives, have abused our bodies in one way or another for years. Not really meaning to but pushing ourselves one way or another over the limits. Personally I have been a carpenter my whole life. I am know, starting to pay for all of the times that I pushed that envelope during my lifetime. We all here what we are supposed to do, (hearing protection, safety glasses, dust mask, etc) but never really adhered to that advise until our later years. By then the damage has already been done. Mike I am truly sorry to hear that you received that news from your Dr. I have a feeling that we all be facing that scenario sooner or later. Be well my friend, listen to his advise, and please stay in touch with us. Scrolling Steve 1 Quote

Dan Posted June 20, 2015 Report Posted June 20, 2015 I agree with Larry...start whittling or carving. Or plant trees, that way our future generation will have wood to cut. Quote
