Scrappile Posted March 16, 2016 Report Posted March 16, 2016 Got up this am, fired up my PC and got a black screen with white printing the said "Hard Drive Error"!! Figures, the warranty ran out 2/20/2016! My wife gave me permission to use her laptop, but it and I have never gotten along. I hate it. So until I figure out what to do, I will be on very limited usage. Quote

GrampaJim Posted March 17, 2016 Report Posted March 17, 2016 Try finding a friendly geek and see if they can install a new hard drive for you. Or you can DIY with help from the internet and google. You would then have to reload all your programs and files - hope you have been doing backups. Good luck! Quote
Lucky2 Posted March 17, 2016 Report Posted March 17, 2016 Paul, keep us up to date with how you make out. Did it crash on it's own when it wasn't being used? Len Quote
wombatie Posted March 17, 2016 Report Posted March 17, 2016 I think its time to make friends with your wife's Lap Top, don't you? Marg Quote

Gordster Posted March 17, 2016 Report Posted March 17, 2016 That sucks Paul....I have an old computer here, not even hooked to the internet. I use it for my wood patterns etc.It makes more grunts and groans that I do. Always holding my breath with it.Bad enough with saw on the blink. I use my friends lap top and I have a tablet for internet. Quote
Scrappile Posted March 17, 2016 Author Report Posted March 17, 2016 Okay, have a good laugh one me. I had a friend come over, she brought all her computer working "stuff" and was going to help me get through this. I pushed the power button and it started to boot up, then it quit. She say Oh,oh, well this is not good. She turned it off, and started to disconnect every thing. Then she say "wait, the power cord is pretty loose" She pushed it in, hit the power button and everything came up fine!!! I don't know how this works, don't know how it can get enough power to start booting, but not have enough power to go all the way... Is there a battery in these things. I don't know, but needless to say I was somewhat embarrassed. Happy, but embarrassed. Now I know how it happened, and it is all that "Heppenerguy's" fault!! He was coming to my house on Saturday, so I decided maybe I should knock a layer of dust off everything in my family room in the basement. It is next to my workshop. You know, I didn't want him to think I am a total crud. So I dusted, and kinda, maybe loosened the power cord on the computer as I dusted around it. If I hadn't thought he was coming, I could have gone another month or more before my wife pointed a gun at me and said "DUST NOW"! WayneMahler 1 Quote
Kepy Posted March 17, 2016 Report Posted March 17, 2016 I knew there was a good reason that it was dangerous to do too much cleaning. Quote
wombatie Posted March 18, 2016 Report Posted March 18, 2016 Not laughing, same thing happened to me with my scroll saw, I was blaming my husband for cleaning up and killing my saw, he walked in and pushed the plug in further and it was fine.  Now he is not allowed to clean anywhere near my area that way there is only me to blame. Larry A. Blakely Posted March 18, 2016 Report Posted March 18, 2016 Can you say, "Occam's Razor?" Quote
Lucky2 Posted March 19, 2016 Report Posted March 19, 2016 Marg, you're the only woman that I know of, that would complain about their hubby cleaning up. Usually, women are complaining about their spouse not cleaning up. I think I want you for a wife, life would be so simple if I didn't have clean things up. Len Quote
