heppnerguy Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 As some of you saw, I put in a request for a really difficult pattern, in the 'pattern request' forum. Mahendra, a friend of ours in India, was able to make a very nice pattern for me, so I went out to my shop to cut it. I was very excited about it as the pattern is of the first mass produced, gasoline powered, gasoline farm tractor. My wife's great grandfather was the person who financed a company and started the production of this tractor. I am in the process of writing a booklet for our family members about the man and the tractor. So here is my effort on cutting the pattern. i have to say that I am not very happy with the results but I will cut another in the near future. I can not thank Mahendra enough for making and posting the pattern for me. I still need to make my backer board and do the finish work on it. I decided to do that much even though I am not happy with my cutting of it, as it did take me quite a bit of time to cut. Dick heppnerguy Falcon and lawson56 2 Quote

Ron Johnson Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 That's quite the tractor Dick. Nicely cut. Once you apply the finish and add the backer she's going to pop. Quote

Scrappile Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 Dick, a good one you are disappointed in, just like my last one... and I like the tractor. You did a great job. Makes me want to start a collection of antique tractors. I have got to learn now to make patterns. Quote
FranMike Harley Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 Great story behind the project, Dick !! You're "not happy with", I'd take any day of the week !! Don't sell yourself short. I know we're all a little critical of our own work as we feel we an always do better but take it from us, you're work is fantastic.. Also nice to hear a story behind the project.. Gives a piece more "meaning".. Thanks for sharing both with us ! Quote

Pattern making is something I have been interested in from the time I started scrolling but for some unknown reason I just do not have the imagination to see a pattern ' to be made' when it is right in front of me. Everything can be a possible pattern, I believe but yet the same problem haunts me. I guess I just need to get off my duff and make a little effort there. Dick Quote

I don't have the time to read about it just yet, but there is a great section here with lots of how-to articles. Also, there are lots of youtube videos that show you how. Quote
Lucky2 Posted March 27, 2016 Report Posted March 27, 2016 Dick, once the finishing touches are added to this piece, it will look a lot different than it does right now. I don't doubt that you'll come to like it, once it is all done up. Cut yourself some slack, it looks nice. Len Quote
