hawkeye10 Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 I have made a few other little things but this is my first real scroll saw project and it has taken me it seems for ever. Sawing it out was easy compared to the finishing. I do think I am going to put it on a base so it will be not so easy to break. I would like your opinion on how to finish the base. I could leave it natural or paint it white or green even red or what ever. Thanks I still need to buy the reins so Santa can drive the reindeer. lawson56, Lucky2, SCROLLSAW703 and 2 others 5 Quote
Scrolling Steve Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 That is awesome !....The finishing , staining or painting, are always my least favorite part of any project....Well done ! Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 I would get a live edge base and varnish it. Great looking sleigh and deer. Roly hawkeye10 1 Quote

Bill WIlson Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 I like it. I'm a sucker for just about anything Christmas. For a base, I would consider making something that simulates a snowy landscape. Maybe incorporate a couple pine trees in the background. You could get really creative and use something like plaster of paris to give it some contour and dimension. Maybe even add wheel and hoof tracks in the snow. Just a thought. Good luck, whichever way you go. WayneMahler 1 Quote
Ron Johnson Posted October 12, 2016 Report Posted October 12, 2016 Very well done Don. For a base I would cut a ½" irregular shaped base, bevel the edges and a minimum 8" longer in front and back of sleigh and reindeer. For paint I would apply a while rock paint (available at craft stores).Add some reflective flakes while paint is wet. It makes the snow glitter. Hot glue sleigh and reindeer to base. For reins I've used gold glittering thread like material, again available at craft stores. Very effective. Other than that use your imagination. You'll create something beautiful. Quote

vykus Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Love the paint. I have been adding more to my projects lately too. I like a splash of color. Quote
wombatie Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 So cool. IF you do paint the base it would have to be green (grass) or white (snow) or green and white but certainly not red. Just my thoughts. Marg Quote
