Birchbark Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 After Rob showed us his summer, i thought i would show you my winter. I went ice fishing yesterday. Caught about 30 fish, kept about 20 for a meal. It was fun. Spent about two hours on the ice. These were the two better fish. Russell Forester and Lucky2 2 Quote

Rob Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 Hi Russell, Thanks for posting. It's fun to see what others are up to. I haven’t fished in years but have bought the kids some rods for Christmas and am looking forward to taking them sea fishing from the rocks and piers nearby. Have a great Christmas, Rob Birchbark 1 Quote

savethebeer Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 Russell, You have some nerve showing your face on here just like that............................... Get yourself back to your workshop. You never booked time away from the Village in advance. There are people out there who need you right now so give up these notions of having spare time to waste on yourself ......................... Birchbark 1 Quote
bandaideman Posted December 18, 2016 Report Posted December 18, 2016 Looks like a good day fishing for you. Ice fishing was OK but can be pretty cold so dress warm. The last time I went ice fishing was years ago with my dad. I was concerned when he told me to Carry the spud horizontal so if you fall through the ice it could help to keep you from going all the way through Maybe. I got over it when we made the first hole that was through over a foot of ice. Birchbark 1 Quote

Lucky2 Posted December 18, 2016 Report Posted December 18, 2016 That's a couple of good looking fish Russell, how thick was the ice? Just judging from the look of you, it's quite cold out there. Len Birchbark 1 Quote
Birchbark Posted December 18, 2016 Author Report Posted December 18, 2016 Wow Russ, is the ice thick enough?? Please be careful. Awesome looking fish. Bet they were tasty. judy The ice wasn't as thick as i had hoped. There were no stress cracks in it yet so the first hole made a giant cracking noise and i almost had the big one right there!! Drilled a second hole and another loud crack right between my legs running to the previous crack. whew But after that all was fine. I measured the ice, it was 4" thick. I guess that was thick enough, I didn't get wet. It was fun. The fish were tasty. Russell LarryEA and ChelCass 2 Quote

I got over it when we made the first hole that was through over a foot of ice. Yep! I was carrying the auger horizontal to the ice... just in case. The first time out at the beginning of the season is always scary for me. The guys at the bait store didn't think it was thick enough yet. The guys at the local Pub didn't think it was gonna be safe yet either. So that all made me a little nervous. But it was fine and the fish were biting. Good day in the end. Russell Quote
LarryEA Posted December 18, 2016 Report Posted December 18, 2016 Yer a brave man. Great looking fish. Birchbark 1 Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted December 18, 2016 Report Posted December 18, 2016 Don't get the chance over here but at least you didn't need to freeze them to keep them fresh. Roly Birchbark and Forester 2 Quote
meflick Posted December 19, 2016 Report Posted December 19, 2016 Glad to see your "winter" (although technically its still not for a few days I think ) as compared to Rob's "summer" - I think I will take Rob's summer right now thanks. Does make me appreciate my no snow, no ice and only 30 degree temps right now though. Glad you had a good day, caught lots of great fish to eat and stayed safe and above the ice! Birchbark 1 Quote
125 CSL Posted December 20, 2016 Report Posted December 20, 2016 I enjoy fishing, but I have limits. Anything close to freezing and the only thing I want is a warm place and hot chocolate. Quote
wombatie Posted December 22, 2016 Report Posted December 22, 2016 Brrrrrrr that look cold we are expecting 36C / 96.8F Christmas Day. Plus I don't like fish very much either. Marg Quote
