Recently there have been several comments disparaging doctors and their motives.   I find these statements to be a real problem.  And the problem is for the patient involved.  Just like anything else where we interact with people, in order to get the best result, we need to approach it properly.  If I start a conversation with someone and I am upset with them to start with, then it is likely that things will not go well.  Doctors are people and one needs to work with them in a cooperative manner.  If you go in angry at a doctor, the results will likely not be the best.

One also has to understand that the relationship is not only between the doctor and patient but involves the insurance plan with its rules and requirements.

As do many other people, I have a number of different problems including chronic back pain and spinal issues.  I have found it is best to try to give the doctor the best exact information about how I am feeling.  Just telling him my back hurts and to fix it will not work.  If I tell him where it hurts, how bad and when, then I give him a better chance to help me.  At times, the doctor will want me to try something that I do not believe will help but have to make certain that I do give it a try.  If it does not work, then we will try something else.  Chronic pain is just that and is pain over a long time. A one time visit to see the doctor is not going to cure me. What I expect my doctor to do is to reduce it far enough to be able to do most activities.  I expect over a period of time to address my issues and find the best way of treatment.   This becomes much more difficult when there are several different health problems.

When I see a doctor, I have a list of all my medications, any surgeries, health problems, allergies, etc.  I want to give him as much information as possible.  It becomes a back and forth discussion trying to find the best solution.  If I approach the doctor with a bad attitude, I am not going to get the result that I want or need.   It is up to the patient to work with the doctor towards a good outcome.

The best solution for me is to work with the same doctor over a long time.  I have been seeing the same doctor for many years and it works well for both of us.  I really believe that doctors want to make you feel better as best they can and patients need to give the doctor a chance.

Well, now Kevin, I've been kind of watching from the wings for a wee while. I am very sorry to hear,(read) of your health problems.

I would just like to say to you.

Someone remembers,

Someone cares

Your name is whispered in someones prayers

Until the sun comes out again for you

My umbrella is big enough FOR TWO.

Substitute "someone" for ALL of us, Kevin. YOUR FRIENDS.

Hope you get back on your feet soon.

Rob ROY.

Insurance is a set of rules that you need to figure out. They follow the roles PERIOD.

My doctors are pretty good about what is allowed or not and WE figure away around, thru or over them.  In a fight with the insurance you will usually lose.
