Been a great year and I thank all of you for all you have shared, encouraged, and explained to me in that year. I really like coming here and my day is not complete without at least one visit it see what everyone is sharing. Yes, I joined the puzzle bandwagon a little bit ago thanks to Iggy and several others on here. Yes, they are addicting. I got the Harvey Byler puzzles via Iggy's site and had purchased the "Animal Puzzles for the Scroll Saw" book by Judy and Dave Peterson and have cut some from there as well. My thought process is that this would be a good way to practice cutting on the lines which would then help improve my intarsia pieces and their fitting together. Time will tell on that one. I haven't add any finish to the pieces yet. Just cut them out and finally got some photos to post. I will try to post in two groups. The first ones will be the puzzles with the wording from Iggy/Harvey and the second will be the ones from the Peterson's Book. I have some more I am working on but haven't gotten cut out. Most of them can actually be put together from either side so that's a bonus. Mean's I am also doing better on not "pushing". I found the wood that worked best for me was the poplar which I got from Lowes. Tried some in pine, cedar, and red oak scraps. Like Goldilocks, I found some too soft, some too hard, and the popular just right for me! I will have to verify where I got the patterns from and edit to add that info. This is a Steve Good Pattern. It also included "Happy Valentine's Day" below the Love but I ran away from all of that small lettering plus, felt that the "Love" was more versatile and could be used for other things without the Happy VD" portion. I could see it used as part of a table center piece at a wedding for example. The heart with my favorite mice I had seen done in other way. I had the silhouette image with the mice and the small heart (easily found with a google search.) - added the simple heart outline around them and cut it out. Couldn't decide how to make a "base" for it so cut out the one you see and cut out the hole for it to set in. Still trying to figure out a better "stand" for it though. I cut it in some cedar and recently dropped it and it broke but was able to glue it back together. I think the cedar is probably not a good choice for most projects like these. I had lots of it for Intarsia so will save most of it fort that probably. The "I Love You" was shared here in the Village by Travis, @TDpainter. Thank you Travis - while I didn't do it justice I will try it again. I tried to cut it in some scrap red oak that husband had left from a project. That stuff is really hard to cut! I also tried to use it in some of the animal puzzles. Again - hard stuff so I think I will leave those scraps alone from now on at least when it comes to trying to cut it on my scroll saw! I try to do something new every year, I guess this year was puzzle year, I had never done a puzzle before of any kind, you are definitely well in front of me. Great work all round Melanie.
