scrollin'fool Posted August 18, 2017 Report Posted August 18, 2017 Hi. Someone recently mentioned how they have a portable air conditioner in their work area. I was wondering if any others here have interesting features to their work areas, so I thought it might be a good idea if everyone could post a clear picture of their own work areas or woodshop or whatever you want to call it. this way, we might all get inspirations on how we could improve our own woodshop areas. this is a picture of my work area. I live in a small two-room apartment. one room is my bedroom and kitchen. the other room is the workshop. its not a very large space, just about a third of the room. I have the scrollsaw on the work table all the time. the belt sander is over on a windowsill close to the exhaust fan, but its not in the picture. I have pictures on the wall because since I can spend twelve or more hours a day at the work bench, I wanted to make it as cozy as possible. wondering what some of you have done to make your space more comfortable. Chiloquinruss Posted August 18, 2017 Report Posted August 18, 2017 Nothing special as its a 'semi' portable device in my shop. The light is very necessary for me (old eyes) and stool needs just a little more padding! Russ ChelCass, Birchbark and Lucky2 2 1 Quote

More comfortable? to be surrounded in lots of wood as a security blanket of never running out!,lol! Quote
Woodmaster1 Posted August 19, 2017 Report Posted August 19, 2017 I get all the garage but the bay for my wife's car. I have an area between the wood lathe and workbench for my scroll saw. Lucky2 1 Quote
Chiloquinruss Posted August 20, 2017 Report Posted August 20, 2017 Woodmaster - I love the table for the table, great place for 'stuff' that always seems to be some place else! Very clever. Thanks for posting. Russ Quote
Chunkthekid Posted August 22, 2017 Report Posted August 22, 2017 My little corner in my little garage. The scroll saw is my only tool that doesn't get moved around on a daily basis... And as you can see, I need a better stool. Lucky2 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted August 22, 2017 Report Posted August 22, 2017 Well somewhat on the messy side, but this is it for the scroll sawing. Lucky2 1 Quote

I have the second bedroom for my "shop" Wow - very nice - Much too clean and organized though! I have a workroom in the house for my other "hobbies" but DH would not let me setup the scroll saw in there. So my scroll saw setup is in a corner of his wood working shop which is a garage bay. The joke in our family is that this house was built for my workroom and his work shop. Everything else was "extra space". Quote
MTCowpoke22 Posted August 25, 2017 Report Posted August 25, 2017 This is my half of the garage. It works. I can move the work bench around to create space as needed. It's helpful that my table saw and planner are in other half for the time being. Quote

scrollin'fool Posted August 28, 2017 Author Report Posted August 28, 2017 sweet. nice work area is that a furnace filter taped to a box fan as an air filter? I was thinking about doing just that. does it work well? how often to change the filter? Quote
Mark SW Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 Scrollin'fool Yes that is a 20x20 filter and I used three L brackets to hold it one on the bottom and one on each side. Slides right in and out. As far as changing it really depends how much you are cutting it also traps overspray if you use spray paint not real sure about spray finishes. I also have a Dust Deputy connected to my Scrollsaw and use it on my Chop, and table saw as well as the sanders and other tools as well. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/517984394617024361/ This pinterest site has other ideas for dust collection also. scrollin'fool Posted August 29, 2017 Author Report Posted August 29, 2017 Ive got about five dollars in the budget for sawdust collection. someone threw away a brand new box fan, so now Im hoping I can afford one of those furnace filters. thanks for the advice. and thanks to all who posted photos of their workshop Quote
oldhudson Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 My shop is located in the lower level of a split level house. But I often use the garage space, especially when breaking down full sheets of pw. These pics are a few years old now. At the time I was completing my kitchen remodel and the drill press (ShopSmith) to drill the 37mm holes for European style hinges. The shop size is 12' x 14'. The router table sits on a shelf until needed, then set up in an old Black & Decker WorkMate. I have another small space that I use for assembly/finishing. i Mark SW 1 Quote
Mark SW Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 Oldhusdon, That is a well stocked workshop you have going there. I am jealous, Quote
Chiloquinruss Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 (edited) I have a 24 inch planer and my cnc machine so dust collection is primary to my shop. Interestingly enough though I don't have a line going to the scroll saw! What's up with that! Russ Edited August 29, 2017 by Chiloquinruss Quote

I have the second bedroom for my "shop" Hello MrsN. Just to say I had some firm foam panels on my floor and it made standing and walking much more comfortable. The front 2 legs of my saw table rested on some of the foam and weeks later I began to notice when cutting some pieces that there was very minute vibration in the blade. It did not affect the cut itself but did cause me to think my eyesight was getting worse. It was only after studying the whole setup that I realised it was the mat causing the saw to shake which looked like vibration in the blade. I removed the mat and all is chrystal clear again.
