First Box

This is the first box I have ever made and it was for my daughters cats ashes.  I was not game to inlay the letters without a lot of practice.      Anyway the wood is ....... opps I have forgotten, and the letters and paw prints are from 2.5mm bamboo.

Nicely Done, Marge! Wondered about the wood? Actually, you live in a part of the world that has access to woods we don't normally see in the US and Canada. Have you worked with some of these exotic woods and what type are they?

That wood was Ironbark.  I have worked with New Guinea Rose Wood, that has a lovely finish.  But my all time favorite to work with is Tasmanian Blackheart Sassafras.

Just checked out all the woods you listed and they are amazing! The rosewood is very similar to Padauk but the sassafras is totally unique with all its varied grain patterns.

No they can only be found at certain places, usually the mill owners have there own stalls at various wood shows and thats where I pick up my wood.  You may also want to check out  Tasmanian Blackwood.
