oldhudson Posted March 13, 2019 Report Posted March 13, 2019 Love the crankshaft re-purposed as a table lamp! The trucks not bad either. Quote
Scrappile Posted March 13, 2019 Report Posted March 13, 2019 (edited) I have only made a few models and found it was very satisfying. It can take a lot of time and patience but what a reward when done. The other aspect I like about them is you use so many tools. Planer, sanders, table saw, band saw, drill press wood lathe and scroll saw not to mention the hand tools. Yours is going to be more detailed than any I did. You are really doing a great job. Please post your progress as you go. Edited March 30, 2019 by Scrappile Quote
amazingkevin Posted March 14, 2019 Report Posted March 14, 2019 That's a complete model down to the brass tacks, Beautifull workmanship!!! Quote

Rockytime Posted March 14, 2019 Report Posted March 14, 2019 The truck looks great. Looks like you are doing a terrific job. I love the dollies. Quote
GNorton Posted March 14, 2019 Author Report Posted March 14, 2019 (edited) All wheels installed and front steering working, I had to install a 3/16 lift on the front end to make the steering work. Dump box next. The plans do not even mention a scroll saw. they say you can do it with a band saw and drill with some basic tools. I have used the scroll saw on just about every part. Used a small lathe for the tires made them out of 3 X 3 Mahogony. A hole saw may have worked but the lathe was much faster. Edited March 14, 2019 by GNorton don watson 1 Quote

GNorton Posted March 14, 2019 Author Report Posted March 14, 2019 (edited) This is the link to the plan, it is quite detailed and I could not have done this without it. The paper plan had images at about 50% of the actual size. I did enlarge the rear springs and fenders at 195% as that was almost a perfect match and used 3M spray adhesive to attach to the blocks and cut them out. That alone saved a ton of time on the springs.http://gattoplans.com/store/dumptruck_13.htm Edited March 14, 2019 by GNorton Phantom Scroller 1 Quote

kmmcrafts Posted March 25, 2019 Report Posted March 25, 2019 Amazing work.. The amount of time into that project would have the price higher than the real one LOL Quote
GNorton Posted March 25, 2019 Author Report Posted March 25, 2019 Re Scrappile, Steel City will be OK look at my arsonel of antiques still operating fine, all have significant modifications. My only fairly recent stationary tools are the DeWalt DW788 scrollsaw and a DeWalt DW734 thickness planer. Quote
