jblock9907 Posted July 2, 2019 Report Posted July 2, 2019 I don't know if any of you are vets and have enrolled in Lowes discount program. I did about a year ago and today I received a Thank You card from Lowes. No ads nothing but a thank you. I am quite impressed. RabidAlien, OCtoolguy and Scrolling Steve 2 1 Quote
JimErn Posted July 2, 2019 Report Posted July 2, 2019 The program was explained to me when I asked for the military discount just like I always do there (and at home depot). I declined to enroll, they wanted too much information IMO, and I don't need yet another sire storing that kind of thing. Lowes and Home Depot have both had data breaches. When I explained why, they gave me the discount anyway as a one time thing. Really does not impact me since I rarely shop there. Good to hear they are working out for you, and that is a nice thing for them to remember. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
bcdennis Posted July 2, 2019 Report Posted July 2, 2019 I love the program at Lowes. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
rjweb Posted July 3, 2019 Report Posted July 3, 2019 I use the military Lowe’s program, it will even give you the discount when you order on line at Lowe’s.com, RJ OCtoolguy and RabidAlien 2 Quote
tgiro Posted July 4, 2019 Report Posted July 4, 2019 With Lowes being 2 miles away and me being retired military = No Brainer. I, also got the thank you card - nice of them. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
edward Posted July 4, 2019 Report Posted July 4, 2019 I also get a Military discount at lowes, was there yesterday and got a discount, I also found out that Home Depot won't honor my Veterans card because its not on there list so I don't shop there anymore, I rather go the extra mile. teachnlearn Posted July 4, 2019 Report Posted July 4, 2019 They must have changed. Haven't bought anything from Lowes or Home Depot for years. Use to just tell them I am a vet and they discounted. Sad they have to made a big deal out of it. Many stores discount seniors and vets, by asking, That's it. RJF Quote
dansnow Posted July 5, 2019 Report Posted July 5, 2019 Signed up for mine last year, also got a thank you from them. Appreciate it. Though there was that one time when the self checkout announced "Thank You for your Military Service!" when I heard a muttered "effing greedy a-hole" from someone behind me. I just smiled to myself and accepted my savings. Quote

I have never had a problem at H/D but my wife has run into clerks who were not trained correctly and she was denied my discount when I was not with her. I made a copy of my i.d. for her to present. Last week she bought a bunch of stuff for our little yard. About $125 or so. The clerk turned her down. I went back the next day to customer service to inquire and was promptly given the discount and told that in the future, if the clerk wouldn't honor her i d. that she should bring her stuff to the customer service desk. I think it would be better if H/D would institute the same system that Lowes has in place. JMHO! Quote
spirithorse Posted July 7, 2019 Report Posted July 7, 2019 I rarely shop at Lowes because their prices are higher than other retailers in the area but, one store was out of stock on what I wanted so I checked at Lowe's. They had it but it was $10 higher. I bought it anyway and they asked me if I had signed up for their military discount (It was July 5th and I almost always wear my Navy ball cap). They signed me up in less than 3 minutes and saved me about 10% on a $45 purchase. Every little bit helps and I was glad they informed me of the opportunity to save. God Bless! Scrolling Steve Posted July 8, 2019 Report Posted July 8, 2019 I drive a little farther to Lowes and use the discount.....like Spirithorse , every little bit helps. Quote
edward Posted July 8, 2019 Report Posted July 8, 2019 I even called H D corporate office and complained about the discount, waste of time, like I said before I rather drive the extra mile.. Quote
rjweb Posted July 8, 2019 Report Posted July 8, 2019 Yes Home Depot doesn’t seem to be working with the veterans like Lowe’s does, RJ Quote
Roberta Moreton Posted July 9, 2019 Report Posted July 9, 2019 We do get the discount, but I don’t like to go there. The employees are rude, don’t know a thing about the department they are in, pretend to be busy. One time I brought in a part that we broke and was asking where to find a new nut and the clerk pointed out that we broke it. I said “Thank you for pointing out that my husband is an ###########! Now, do you sell the nut or not? We go to True Value now. Much better. Quote
teachnlearn Posted July 9, 2019 Report Posted July 9, 2019 We go to Lowes and Home Depot for the variety. We have found almost all the people have no idea what is in the store, or what it is. I have been taken in circles around the store many times, because the employee has no idea what the part is. Taken to hardware for a plumbing part. Have gone to the plumbing aisle with a employee trying to be helpful, tell me they don't have that part, while I pull it from the shelf. Ace Hardware always seems to have experienced people, but most of the items are just a little more expensive. Had a gas powered water pump that had a 2 inch outlet hose. Wanted to convert it to a garden hose to pump from a barrel and went to ace hardware. Had the 2 inch hose fitting and gave it to the employee. This guy went from plumbing to garden grabbing everything nonstop. Pulled everything out of the packages to test fit and handed it too me. Honestly I would have been in plumbing for half an hour staring at the shelves and testing fittings. RJF Quote
jerry1939 Posted July 9, 2019 Report Posted July 9, 2019 We have great employees in our Coralville, Iowa store. For a lot of items, I look on their web site to find what I want. It tells you what Isle it's in. jerry Quote
rjweb Posted July 9, 2019 Report Posted July 9, 2019 I feel that the manager of the Lowes store can make and break it, lucky for me our store is great along with alot of smart employees, RJ Quote
