JimErn Posted January 6, 2020 Report Posted January 6, 2020 I see this pop up on craigs list today, Delta scroll saw but it looks more like a band saw to me, I did email the seller but ... thoughts? https://sanantonio.craigslist.org/tls/d/boerne-scroll-saw/7050557898.html OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted January 6, 2020 Report Posted January 6, 2020 (edited) I often wonder about things listed that the seller doesn't seem to know what the tool really is. Like maybe you could be buying stolen goods.... I saw one a while back where they were selling a circular saw as a scroll saw. I emailed the seller and suggested it would sell faster if he tried to sell it for what it was. He/she changed the title to the add to what it was but not the describing text. JimErn Posted January 6, 2020 Author Report Posted January 6, 2020 I sort of need/want a band saw, is that delta worth the 125 being asked if he won't go down any? opinions? but then again there is a new WEN 9" band saw for 137 and change OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Bill WIlson Posted January 6, 2020 Report Posted January 6, 2020 Clicked on the link and it says the price is $80. Personally, I wouldn't offer more than $50 for it, but then again, I have no use for it. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
new2woodwrk Posted January 6, 2020 Report Posted January 6, 2020 Yah band saw to me also - I see he changed the description to band saw though OCtoolguy 1 Quote
JimErn Posted January 6, 2020 Author Report Posted January 6, 2020 price went down since early this morning, interesting OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted January 6, 2020 Report Posted January 6, 2020 Jim, what do you plan on doing with a bandsaw? That is a mighty small one. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
JustLarry Posted January 7, 2020 Report Posted January 7, 2020 (edited) That looks like an older model Delta. The operator's manual I found on line is dated 1992. A lot of the parts are no longer available. Edited January 7, 2020 by JustLarry OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted January 7, 2020 Report Posted January 7, 2020 I'd keep looking. That is a tiny saw with not many uses unless you're into model airplanes. There are many on C/L near me from 9" on up. I've not heard much good about the bench top units. I've got a 14" Delta with the enclosed base that I paid $300 for. I used the heck out of it before I finally had to do some fix up. New tires etc. Quote
Jim McDonald Posted January 7, 2020 Report Posted January 7, 2020 I was gifted a table top bandsaw of about the same size (Craftsman). Really need to practice with it to figure out what I can and can't do with it. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

I had a 9" skil band saw I bought in 2018 thinking I would use it to rip stuff, or use it to separate patterns on boards etc. I just sold it last weekend for $35 - it cost me $130 - but it sat for over a year with no use what so ever If I do decide to buy another, it won't be a small one - probably something like a Rikon 10" or something with some "meat" behind it OCtoolguy 1 Quote
rjweb Posted January 7, 2020 Report Posted January 7, 2020 I would go for the wen, with a bandsaw you can make bandsaw boxes, RJ new2woodwrk and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
Scrappile Posted January 7, 2020 Report Posted January 7, 2020 I think for resawing, I would want nothing less than a 14" and bigger than that would be better. I have a 14" with riser block. I rarely use it,,,, not sure why. I do know that if you resaw wood, you will need some other tools also, like a thickness planer, table saw.... new2woodwrk and OCtoolguy 1 1 Quote

When he needs something cut, he comes to me and saves the time and frustration of trying to work with his. Word to the wise. new2woodwrk 1 Quote
