Don W Yes, I rout out the pattern, cover in black paint, getting into all the lines and then sand the whole thing, leaving just the sunken lines in tact.Β Β meflick and don watson 2 Quote

don watson Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 Brenda, A stupid question but I must ask, could you cover the face of your wood with masking tape before adding the pattern and routing ?? Then painting would be done the same but it would just be the removal of masking tape to get back to the finished piece and no need for sanding ?? I don't know if this would work (or even if you understand what I mean). take care Don W Β Quote
Foxfold Posted July 23, 2020 Author Report Posted July 23, 2020 I know exactly what you mean Don, however I find that tape clogs up my tiny cnc blades and also it frays somewhat when cut with a spinning blade so I lose theΒ edge of my pattern.Β I just 'transfer' my pattern with cellulose thinner onto the wood and cut, I'm much more comfortable with doing it that way.Β Β Quote
don watson Posted July 24, 2020 Report Posted July 24, 2020 I suspected that may be the case. If you get a tape that will stick to the wood and you can cut it with the blade I think it would be impossible to remove from the wood. AH Well, another idea bites the dust. take care Don W Β Quote

Phantom Scroller Posted July 26, 2020 Report Posted July 26, 2020 Great work Brend. Looks excellent. I do this type of thing and usually find sealing wood first then paint and sand when itΒ driesΒ works a treat if you don't seal first it will leach into the sides then it a headache.Β Tried the covering but as you say the glue sticks to the bits. Dave Monk Posted July 27, 2020 Report Posted July 27, 2020 Brenda, You are incredible with a router. There is no way I would attempt that. It is almost too perfect. Foxfold 1 Quote

Thank you for those kind words.Β Β I find it not that much different from scrolling. I just cut along the lines of the pattern.Β The biggest difference is that after cutting round the lines the piece doesn't 'fall out' of the wood,Β Β you have to go over it again to 'clear out', but there are 'bits' that do that, so it's really not that difficult.Β Just different.Β Quote

I'll stick to my scrollsaw and router.Β Β Quote
