puzzleman Posted October 2, 2020 Report Posted October 2, 2020 I'm looking for a new led magnifying light. I've had some in the past that made me dizzy. Can someone recommend a GOOD quality LED magnifying light for scrolling? A floor model would be ideal but could also use a clamp on model. Thanks Quote
oldhudson Posted October 2, 2020 Report Posted October 2, 2020 (edited) I think you'll get more views and replies if you post your query in the General Scroll Sawing category. I wish I could remember what magnifier I have. Someone on this forum recommended it and I like it pretty well but it's not great. Trouble is we are all so different in our needs that what works great for one person may be mediocre to the next scroller. I went back and checked my order and here's the Amazon link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075ZYZP9J?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details Edited October 2, 2020 by oldhudson Quote
WayneMahler Posted October 2, 2020 Report Posted October 2, 2020 This topic pops up every so often. My eyes are getting strained more and think this would be a possible solution . Interested in reading everyone's responses. new2woodwrk 1 Quote

jerry1939 Posted October 2, 2020 Report Posted October 2, 2020 I quit sawing a while ago. Had a lighted magnifier. DO NOT MOUNT IT ON THE SAW STAND. Had to move mine because of the slight vibration from the saw. jerry Quote

I had gotten a cheaper one and it did not work as well, had a lot of distortion with it that I do not have with the one from Judy. I do have mine mounted to my saw stands and have not had any issue from vibration. I have been using them this way for more than 4 years. The one from Judy has two different lenses you can swap between depending on the strength you need. https://intarsia.com/products/new-led-daylight-slimline-magnifying-lamp GrampaJim and WayneMahler 2 Quote
new2woodwrk Posted October 3, 2020 Report Posted October 3, 2020 I use this one from HF https://www.harborfreight.com/fluorescent-magnifying-lamp-60643.html?_br_psugg_q=magnifier Works very well but it's not LED, hence the price Amazon has a ton of decent LED ones under $50 https://www.amazon.com/s?k=led+magnifying+lamp&i=office-products&crid=QRPTT3MCBY0V&sprefix=led+magnifieng+lamp%2Coffice-products%2C215&ref=nb_sb_ss_sc_1_19 WayneMahler 1 Quote

I have the exact lamp you have on my 14" Hegner and I have found it to be nearly perfect. I have four mag lights. One fluorescent and three LED. Two are 5X which is way too strong for most people, one is 1.75X on my 18" Hegner which is OK but the one you are using and mine are 3X. That seems to be an optimum for many scrollers. I like the idea that there is no distracting big ring around the lens. I have used those types for many years although not for scrolling as I have only been scrolling for about three years. I also like the streamlined look of it. There is only one disadvantage that I can see. Because the lens is so light weight the lamp sometimes tends to lift on its own a problem I fixed although I should not have had to do that. They must be popular because I believe I paid about $30 for mine and now I see they are over $60. To keep it from lifting I glued a couple of weights on the arm behind the lens and now it works perfectly. It is not mounted on the saw but rather on the adjacent bench. I love the light. amazingkevin Posted October 3, 2020 Report Posted October 3, 2020 To keep from having tunnel vision I use a led daylight 60 bulb swinging light and strong glasses 600 power is good for me on coins but scroll sawing I need a little less. Rockytime 1 Quote
puzzleman Posted October 4, 2020 Author Report Posted October 4, 2020 Thanks to all who responded! I thought I had posted it under "General" and even looked there for responses but couldn't find the topic. I was at Harbor Freight yesterday and picked up one for $40. If that doesn't work I will take it back and get an led that was recommended here. Thanks again. new2woodwrk and Rockytime 1 1 Quote
