scroll saw blades

Well I'm leaning towards the Craftsman 16'' Variable Speed Scroll Saw (21602) . What are the types of blades I will want to have on hand at all times? Are there bad blades to stay away from? Thanks for the help!

Myself, I keep 2's,3's,4's,5's, some with reverse teeth some without.

So far I'm using Olson blades, but I find I really only use #2 and #5's.. all reverse tooth to keep the tear out at bay.

I believe I have the same saw, though I'll have to check to make sure. Mine has developed a loud rattle where the blade tension knob is. They come with a piece of foam wedged in there but it still rattles. It cuts fine but you might want to invest in some headphones.

Nevermind! Mines a different model! I would see if you can power one up and let it run before you buy it though.

the craftmans looks ok for pin-end blades but to change to plain-end blades you have to use a t-wrench to change both top and bottom I think would become tedious.

I have a 16" craftsman model 21601, not sure how much different it will be than yours but I've used it for the past 5 years. I think it's a great beginner saw. It is much louder than the higher end saws but not ridiculous.

Mine has thumb screws for blade change so no tools required.

 

I keep 3, 5, 7 and 12 blades on hand. Flat blades I don't really use spirals, just my preference.

 

Most of them are ultra reverse blades

Read your post again; I don't know of any "bad" blades. I never use pinned blades, there not bad you just have to make a big hole to accommodate the pin. And in a lot of work you don't want big holes.

Blades are a personal preferance you will develop after trying several types. I use more 0/2 then any other size and I like crown tooth.
