Grumps

Grumps

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am yet to use a scrollsaw, my wife got me one for Christmas and well it's on back order. I tinker with some woodworking and am very much an amateur, I have had some health issues which limits productivity and believe smaller projects will be better for me. I cannot wait to see what I will be able to do. Look forward to all the wealth of information. If there are any 'easy' starter projects for a beginner, known by anyone or a resource of patterns tips etc. (Note am yet to go through this sites info)

Thanks, John (Grumps, nickname my grandkids have for me - I'm not really grumpy :))

Hi John and another Tennessee welcome. My sister and her husband just had their first grandchild last year. She’s too young yet to call him anything BUT apparently when she was born, his secretary suggested “Grumps” said it fit. 😉😏🤨☺️ So everyone else has been calling him Grumps so Grumps he is too. Look forward to your participation. Hope you get your saw soon. What kind are you waiting on?

ifvyou are not familiar with Steve Good’s blog, you might check it out. He usually posts a new free scroll pattern most days and has been doing so for years now. Most of the, are “smaller” projects so might work for you. You can find his blog here:

Hi Meflick,

I can't wait to get my scrollsaw, it's from Carbatec ... https://www.carbatec.com.au/carbatec-400mm-scroll-saw-with-rotary-carving-attachment

I hope to 'learn fast' and to be a good Grumps and get my grandkids interested in it as well

Oh yeah Steve Goods knowledge and videos are awesome, also for a few months I have been reading through books, countless YouTube videos and subscriptions everywhere.

Am impressed with all the responses from the village,

Thanks from Down Under ... Ipswich, Queensland Australia

Welcome to the Village John! Scrolling indeed is a fun hobby. It will be frustrating at first, but I’m sure you will get the hang of it. You will have lots of questions, so come back often. What saw was ordered?

I have a Carbatec on order, hopefully a good starter one ... https://www.carbatec.com.au/carbatec-400mm-scroll-saw-with-rotary-carving-attachment

Welcome to the Village from East Coast of Central Florida from FrankEV another Grumps.

I was only 40 when my first grandson was born.  At that time I said I was much too young to be called a grandfather, eventhough I sleep with a grandmother, so I said just call me Grumps.

It stuck and my kids and grandkids still call me Grumps.  However, that monika stays within the family.  Here I'm just...

Welcome from another Arizona person. I too would suggest going to Steve Good's site because he has so many beginner patterns and also some for the experienced scroller. Have fun, buy good blades and post some of your work. Remember we all started at one time, ourselves. Hang on to your first piece so  you can look back at how fast you progressed.
