Millwab Posted June 29, 2022 Report Posted June 29, 2022 Thinking ahead to a demonstration I’ll be doing later this summer, I’m trying to decide how to display a particular set of projects. They’re approximately 8” in diameter (5 groups of 3). So far I’ve come up with either a 3-stepped holder (similar to a plate holder) that would sit on my display shelves or a wire screen (attached pic). Have any of you used this type of screen to display items? If so, how do you attach the items to the screen? Quote
Paladin Posted June 29, 2022 Report Posted June 29, 2022 If they can be hung, then the wire screen should work well I would think. The only suggestion I have if you use one of those is to hang some fabric from the back of the screen so that people can't see through it. This will keep people from looking past your display if there is another vendor behind you, keeping their focus on your display. Quote
new2woodwrk Posted June 29, 2022 Report Posted June 29, 2022 If you can post a sample of what you want to display, that would help. Also... I do 2 events every week and I can tell you from experience if you block customers from seeing another vendor your reputation will be in the garbage fast! I have seen these vendors get called out about blocking, and asked to either remove the block or not come back. Your products will stand on their own if you display them well. Let's see what you are trying to display Quote
Dave Monk Posted June 30, 2022 Report Posted June 30, 2022 I use curtain hooks to hang my wall art. Quote

This is an example of what I’ll be displaying Quote

Do you have hanger of some type on the back of the items?. If so head to the hardware and grab a heap of "S" hangers, they are what I use to hang my portraits on a lattice display. Maybe, even a super market will have them new2woodwrk 1 Quote

John, the backs are covered with a layer of 1/8” ply (stained on the front for contrast looking through the service emblem and cut lettering). I’m sure hanging them on a wall would be the typical choice but something I never thought to address. Future ones will have a keyhole slot cut before assembly and for the ones already together I can drill out the keyhole high enough that it won’t be seen. The "S" hooks could then hold the plaque to the lattice. Thanks for solving a problem before it became one John B 1 Quote
new2woodwrk Posted June 30, 2022 Report Posted June 30, 2022 (edited) I made this to display some of my items - seems like it could work for your plates... It has a lip at the bottom and I have since added some bungee to hold the pieces in, in case of winds Edited June 30, 2022 by new2woodwrk John B 1 Quote
Millwab Posted July 1, 2022 Author Report Posted July 1, 2022 One concern I would have hanging these on a wire grid is how easy they could be accidentally knocked off. Hitting the concrete floor from eye height could be disastrous. My original idea was to make a 3-tiered display not unlike Jes's idea that would sit on my existing display shelves. Time for more contemplation. Thanx all for the feedback. I’ll let you know what finally comes of it. Quote

Let's see what you are trying to display The intent of my advice was not to block another person's display, but to use the racks as a backdrop to your booth to prevent people from looking through your booth to the people behind you (assuming the event is set up with back-to-back aisles). Since Bruce stated he is setup in a corner this won't be an issue, but if you are in the middle of an aisle with another booth behind you in the next aisle, you want the customer's attention to remain on your booth while they are in front of you instead of being distracted by something they see in the next aisle over. Millwab Posted July 25, 2022 Author Report Posted July 25, 2022 Decided to make a stand for the plaques that would fit on my display shelves. Made 2 of them so that I can move them around and even use them for other things. I’m thinking I’ll add just a single hole or keyhole slot in the backer. They’re not heavy and that would give them the option of a plate stand or to hang it on the wall. This is what I came up with … meflick, BadBob and John B 3 Quote
rjweb Posted July 25, 2022 Report Posted July 25, 2022 Very nice work, how do you make a key hole slot, thx RJ Quote
Peter N White Posted July 26, 2022 Report Posted July 26, 2022 You can get key hole slot bits at most good router bit suppliers. Quote

My solution would be to either cut it with the scrollsaw before assembly or simply drill overlapping holes of different sizes. The plaques aren’t very heavy and it wouldn’t take much of a fastener (screw, nail, or picture hanger) to hold it on the wall. John B 1 Quote
