meflick Posted August 30, 2022 Report Posted August 30, 2022 Congratulations looks like a nice roomy shop that at some point, you will fill up and think you need more space. Least, that’s what usually happens. amazingkevin, OCtoolguy and danny 3 Quote

Ken O Posted September 1, 2022 Author Report Posted September 1, 2022 Set some trusses last night. Only got 5 done before it got dark and we could see lightning coming so we decided to call it a night. OCtoolguy, meflick and ChelCass 3 Quote

And playing with all that steel when there is lightning in the area is not wise. Good that you called it a day. Quote

You can do your own custom size or order one of the standard sizes they have. I can't afford to pay someone to do it all for me and I have the skills to get it done so there we go. Yes, holding a truss in the air trying to get it to seat down into the socket and seeing lightning flash nearby made my eyes get big very quickly. Gene Howe, OCtoolguy, ChelCass and 1 other 1 3 Quote

Good thinking. If I lived nearby, I'd become your best friend. What a great shop you're going to have. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes before you outgrow it. Just how much crap you can accumulate. It goes so fast. ChelCass 1 Quote

It goes so fast. You're welcome to come by any time! haha! I have big plans for this building. I plan on starting a composites business on the side. I already make model boats using carbon fiber and there is actually quite a demand for those. But I have some bigger plans like a lightweight teardrop camper you could haul with a small SUV and maybe some body panels and interior pieces for my 67 GMC pickup. danny, ChelCass and OCtoolguy 2 1 Quote
Ken O Posted September 8, 2022 Author Report Posted September 8, 2022 All the trusses are up and some of the braces are in. Back wall is done. Worked on the front wall around the doors today. The dirt is all moved back in place too. Scrappile, Eplfan2011, meflick and 2 others 5 Quote

Ken O Posted October 18, 2022 Author Report Posted October 18, 2022 Well after 3 weeks in Kuwait for work I'm back at it. We got the last of the support rails up on Saturday and half the roof up on Sunday. I was messing around last night and set up a couple of my lights temporarily just to give me some light in the evenings if I need to go do anything out there. Should have the rest of the roof on this weekend provided the weather holds out. danny, OCtoolguy, ChelCass and 3 others 5 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted October 18, 2022 Report Posted October 18, 2022 It's going to be wonderful. Except for when it rains. I can just hear that tin roof now. We spent a week down in Charleston in our motorhome during a hurricane and it rained 36" in 24 hours. The roof sounded like there was a drum band marching on it all night. Your roof will be even worse. But, even with that said, I envy the Hell out of you for what you will have. ChelCass, danny and bobscroll 3 Quote

That may be a problem this winter but after that there should be a ton of insulation installed which will quiet it down a lot. If not, I'll just play the music louder! haha! LarryEA Posted October 19, 2022 Report Posted October 19, 2022 (edited) That is a perfect size for my shop, It's a dream shop. But then all my tools would fit in that building at least 4 times. Edited October 19, 2022 by LarryEA OCtoolguy and ChelCass 2 Quote

This weekend I'll put the small door in, finish the front sheet metal and finish the trim. Big door is a week or 2 out but that's fine. Once the trim is done I can call the inspector and get that out of my hair. ChelCass, bobscroll, OCtoolguy and 2 others 4 1 Quote
