Fontesfamily Posted November 6, 2022 Report Posted November 6, 2022 I found a Hegner Multimax 18 for $375. The Match number is 401177. I can't find anywhere that tells me the age, the guy who is selling it guesses it is about 20 years old. It looks in good condition. It is a variable speed and he says the motor runs well. It is about the same price as the Hawk 226VS I was looking at, and way cheaper than the new Dewalt I was looking at. What are your thoughts? OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted November 6, 2022 Report Posted November 6, 2022 The pictures ate too small to tell.. On my hegner that silver tag in the first picture has the serial number and date manufactured on it. Any chance of getting bigger pictues? t looks to have the tension release lever on the front of the upper arm, so it has either been upgraded or is not real old. I do not know what time they added that. You can call Advance Machinery : https://advanced-machinery.myshopify.com/pages/hegner-home and they can probably tell you the age by the serial number. kmmcrafts Posted November 6, 2022 Report Posted November 6, 2022 Yeah, every Hegner I've seen had the date on that same tag that is in the first picture.. I save the picture and zoomed in on a drawing software and best I can make of it is the last digit looks like a 7.. I'm guessing 1987, 1997, or 2007.. Being the tension lever is at the front I'd also guess it to be a 2007.. But without a better picture that's all I can make of it. danny, OCtoolguy and Jim Finn 3 Quote
nrscroller Posted November 13, 2022 Report Posted November 13, 2022 (edited) I would buy that for that price, I got mine about 15 years ago for 500 dollars and it was hardly used. Advanced machinery is very nice to work with and will gladly answer questions and help. Also on my Hegner there is a date on the silver tag with the serial number to tell you when it was made. OCtoolguy Posted November 13, 2022 Report Posted November 13, 2022 I hope you bought this saw. Will we be told? Quote
ChelCass Posted November 13, 2022 Report Posted November 13, 2022 With all this talk about the Hegner, guess I better take another look at mine. I bought it at a auction for 200.00 and it has been sitting on the shelf since I bought it two years ago. danny and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
Scrappile Posted November 13, 2022 Report Posted November 13, 2022 Another comment, just to make sure you are aware, Hegners are bottom feed only scroll saws. If you like top feeding, Hegner is not the saw for you. I think that is one of the main reason you do not see more Hegners in use. that and the price. OCtoolguy and GrampaJim 1 1 Quote

I am a top feeder and thats the reason I sold my Hegner. I did think it was the most accurate saw I have used, but that could be just the old operator. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted November 13, 2022 Report Posted November 13, 2022 I forget that there is weirdos that top feed.. The newer Hawks 2005+ can top or bottom feed... sometimes I get caught up in how "I" scroll saw and forget about how those weirdos do it.. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Yeah, I tried top feeding and it just seems so wrong that I went back to bottom feeding. It's so much easier to use the top clamp that the bottom clamp that it makes the difference for me. Not sure I'd classify the top feeders as weirdos though. Just different! VERY! kmmcrafts and danny 1 1 Quote
