Popular Post Sycamore67 Posted March 14, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted March 14, 2023 I made several posts in another sub-forum on how I made this Intarsia. The T Rex head is almost all Poplar and I picked pieces with various shades to help make it more lifelike. The teeth are made from Aspen and the tongue and mouth have Cherry and Walnut. The background is Blue Pine that was resawn form a 3/4" board and bookmatched. The frame is Poplar. The finish is water based semi-gloss poly. OCtoolguy, wdkits1, Dave Monk and 7 others 9 1 Quote

rjweb Posted March 15, 2023 Report Posted March 15, 2023 Beautiful craftsmanship, how did you do the texture, RJ Quote
Sycamore67 Posted March 15, 2023 Author Report Posted March 15, 2023 (edited) The texture for the round area in front of the eye was made with a small 1/8" tube chucked in my Dremel. I cut small teeth in it and plunged vertically into the wood. It was then sanded with a 220 mop. The Texture on the jaw and other places was done with a Dremel using a pointed diamond bit. After engraving, the areas were lightly sanded. The diamond bits work ok but do wear out after awhile. But they are cheap as this set was about $12 on Amazon. I actually tried a bunch of different things. For me, I enjoy doing real Intarsia and trying different things. I am in no hurry. I will have to admit that I drove my wife nuts looking at my various trials. Edited March 15, 2023 by Sycamore67 Dan and meflick 2 Quote
