Back when I was going to make my own setup, with an old motor I had. I purchased this adapter and chuck.  I was going to use a 1/2" shaft to mount sanding mops on so this adapter is for a 1/2" shaft.  I can find where I go the adapter and I can get one for a 5/8"shaft to fit my slow grinder, but I cannot remember where I got the chuck.  I have searched for two days and cannot find one like it.  Got to be out there somewhere.  It is a nice keyless chuck. I must have purchased the last one ever made.  The adapter is for attaching buffing wheels to a shaft.

I would love to know where you got the 1/2 adapter and drill chuck, as I would like to add a mop to my bench grinder.  Right now I have a soft barrel on the left and want to swap out the stone.

I have one like that that fit the 5/8" shaft on my variable speed Rikon.  For it to work well I had to cut the threads off the shaft. The problem I had was when I cut it off I got the shaft too hot which did not do the bearings any good.

Dave I have that Rikon, could you please take a picture of what you did to your Rikon....I can't quite picture it in my brain ...Thank you.  mc

I originally bought  a commercially made adapter for a variable speed Rikon. When I put it on the shaft the set screws tightened on the threads of the shaft. I got way too much wobble and vibration. I cut the treads off the shaft and it worked great. I think I got the shaft way too hot because it wasn't too long and the bearing started making a lot of noise. I saw the low speed grinder on sale so I went ahead and bought it. Instead of altering my new grinder I went ahead and had a local machine shop make a new connector that would fit better. It fits past the threads and the screws tighten on the shaft.  It cost me $100 which to me was a bit expensive I thought but it sure did work out well. Maybe there is a commercial one out there that would work but I couldn't find one.

Darn, they want $21.00 to ship!  Started the order, but when I saw that for a $30 item, I canceled.

exactly what I did, but may not find one in the U.S. least I haven't yet.

Thanks Dave, do you recall where you got your chuck?   I will only be able to use the one side of my grinder since I still need to sharpen my Lathe tools with the other side.  Thanks again for sending the pic! :)

This is the original set I bought. I used this chuck on the new adapter I had made. https://www.ebay.com/itm/291030753225?hash=item43c2c8dfc9:g:W2cAAOSws-9Z0mgQ&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8Bmhh%2BJCZzjstWJYfpe1NGWKDAikL0uQzeZejz0RfUcjmGeCagkA%2BeGcbsYTslg%2FlE4YW4GGB2wF3Kd1BdyA5Dl6wkDyKNpfzRDiNMcONK46%2BqRsyg6yR9y9c6k96%2FrkXR2Sj%2B%2FZeNtgJSAoHln0Ihyo8Mhxy0e1YBBwC5%2Fnv2bWpzqfW4bAWRnGmXvlUnOGUEtE4UGdj3hjvVsYIapV33snwRGXjbPODfg4w3qbrdJXivjXAbTDV%2F7QT7%2BGPZRefL1F0gJ88ZJmkTWSI9ZQGgyKxXSHmThPFrkevb6DiecR5SCv69zvKGj4bMBxgKjcTA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR5j9i9yRYg

So you are the reason why there are 270+ sold but only 3 left!!  😆  Humm!  But doing intarsia is becoming as expensive as doing lathe work.  Never an end to the expense.  Maybe I need to go back to the boring fret work I use to do!😏  Got to think about this... but what I wonder about, Is if I buy two of  three remaining, will it actually change to say only one remaining.......?!🤔

Now I go back to the ones posted earlier that wanted $21 shipping.. they just became a little cheaper than I thought..

You say you had an adapter made because of "wobble and vibration".  Did you get that with the drum sander setup on the other side?  I purchased that setup from Judy Gale Roberts and I have wobble and vibration in it.  I just figured that is how the ball rolls.. am I wrong and should I be contacting them?

I am doing a lot more intarsia and segmentation.  I finally have my shaping/sanding area set up the way I want. It is next to my scroll saw, so I just pivot my stool and keep on keeping on.

I do hand, and power carving at the board. I actually like my pneumatic barrels sanding drums and mops on the drill press (+hand sanding), I do not put a lot of pressure when I am barrel/mop sanding so no extra stress on the drill press.

Until I make a permanent dust collection, I have an adjustable hose that easily moves to each station, the vacuum goes on automatically when I turn a machine on, then goes off after 3 seconds of turning off the machine.

You can see my belt/disc sander in the background, it is on a portable cart.  I only use that outside of the garage (open door with silver insulation) as it is really dusty even with the vacuum connected, I use disc/belt for the heavy sanding/shaping.

I also get vibration and wobble on the setup I got from Judy. I think maybe it's has to do with the foam insert. Some of them I put on are much worse than others.  I don't use them lots so I have learned to live with it. I use the drill chuck side much more. It is a bit pricey to get into intarsia but what addiction isn't. Can't wait to hear about your wood hoarding.

Don, does your grinder shaft have threads on the end for a nut to hold on the grinder wheels that came with your grinder?  like mine

Boy Never thought it would be this difficult to get a chuck that will work on a 5/8" bench grinder.  It appears you have to buy and adaptor.  But I have not found one that I think will work on a threaded arbor.  That is way I think Dave had to have one made so that was long enough that the set screws will tighten on the none threaded portion of the arbor.  Most tighten on the threads of the arbor causing a bad wobble.  I may have to find a machinist like Dave did.

Sorry Dave I am not understanding what you are wanting me to see here.  What I see is a whole lot more money, I do not have.  Maybe intarsias is not in my budget!

It was just interesting to me that the flex shaft and drill chuck would fit on a grinder shaft. Not for me but I thought it was interesting.
