As far as I know Jim puts his patterns out for general consumption. I probably wouldn't make it to sell though. Check with him on Facebook. Jim Blume. Quote
don watson Posted June 25, 2023 Report Posted June 25, 2023 I seldom/if ever sell anything as it is usually spirited away by family members even before I get a chance to photograph it. I will have a look at the Jim Blume site anyway. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

FrankEV Posted June 25, 2023 Report Posted June 25, 2023 Add a black backer, make a nice Frame for it and then hang it somewhere to enjoy. Once you start making framed art, the walls in your home wiil get full real quick. In the future I might suggest you think about using a thinner cut panel when making an art type panel with a backer. Makes for a better visual effect with less vertical cut surfaces visable. OCtoolguy and don watson 2 Quote

Some years ago, I was at a local plywood specialty shop near where I live and the owner gave me a deal on a couple of sheets of slightly water-marked 5/16" BB plywood. I brought them home and cut one of them into as many 8.5 x 11 pieces as I could get. I'm using them up little by little. Personally, I hate working with plywood but it is what it is. They'll be gone sometime. I've got a bunch of 1/8" and 1/4" but I'm saving them for something special. Not sure what yet. I'm going to be making a miter sled like yours soon so I can make a frame. I'm going to run over to Hobby Lobby and pick up a piece of black poster board for a backer. FrankEV 1 Quote

Uhg...I would use the 5/16" Ply, sanded well and then painted, for backers. Poster board is toooooooo flimsy IMHO. I feel it shouidl be wood on wood. The cut panel should be a better quality thin ply like Maple, Birch, or Walnut. The 5/32" solid core project panels from HD are a little pricy, but much better quality for making a good looking Art panel. I use 1/4" thk BB ply for my backers. You know the rule; "You get what you pay for!" A miter sled is nice if you are going to be making many frames. Working carefully with a decent quality miter guide on the table saw will allow you to make a decent looking Frame. Just one other comment. I would reccomend when sizing your pattern, work toward standard photo sizes for the panels; 8x10 and 11x14 as you can buy realy inexpensive premade frames on Amazon if you don't want to make your own. I sure you are aware that 8.5 x 11 (letter size) is not very appropriate for Art. OCtoolguy and BadBob 1 1 Quote

Way too time consuming. Too many drill holes, too many broken blades and once finished, just another wall hanger. We don't have that much wall space to begin with. Whatever I might make has to hang in my little office. Or in somebody else's home. Quote
