Messman Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 I was asked to make a box for someone recently that has some scroll work in it and I am in the planning stage and was thinking about the hinges. Well I thought make them out of wood, you just made yourself a simple box joint jig, you could use that to make hinges as well. So here is the trail hinge. I need to figure out how to keep my drill bit straighter in my peice of crap drill press so it don't drift on me, but I am happy with the over all results. I will probably round over the edges all the way around for the real ones but let me know what you think of it and if you have made wooden hinges tell me how you have made them. Quote
Jim Finn Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 your hinge looks good. I have made some just like that. A brad point bit will help in keeping the hole straight. I made a box joint jig that I use to make my hinges. End grain oak works best. Quote
Messman Posted April 18, 2012 Author Report Posted April 18, 2012 The smallest brad point I can find is 1/8" and the hole I am drilling is smaller than that. I will figure out the drift issue if it is the last thing I do. Quote
