Scrappile Posted June 2, 2024 Report Posted June 2, 2024 Momma said there would be days like this. I'm Working on a Marine Corps emblem for myself. I'm doing it in hard woods no plywood, no paint. This is the emblem part. I used Canary wood, one of my favorite woods. This happened on the last of sanding with a Mac Mop. It's the first thing I have ever broken with a Mac Mop. Too angry to be MAD. I actually think I can glue it back together and and it would not be noticeable. But, I will cut another one, I love cutting Canary wood. If I get it back together I will find a place to use it. Loskoppie and barb.j.enders 2 Quote
Peter N White Posted June 2, 2024 Report Posted June 2, 2024 Nice cutting but sorry for your whoopsie you never told us the choice words you must have said. Quote
ChelCass Posted June 2, 2024 Report Posted June 2, 2024 First thing I saw was this glued to a backer board spaced just as you have it. What a great conversation piece. You could also take the three separate pieces and put them together on a backer board. or use each piece separately. So many possibilities. danny, barb.j.enders and flarud 3 Quote
TAIrving Posted June 2, 2024 Report Posted June 2, 2024 Been there, done that. With a different pattern and different wood of course, but the same issue. I found that my piece was too fragile. The pattern had several points where things were poorly supported and the finished product would never last. So I embedded it in epoxy. It took a lot of sanding and polishing to make it presentable but now it looks good and is solid. Or you could mount it on a backer board. Quote
Scrappile Posted June 2, 2024 Author Report Posted June 2, 2024 I said and I quote myself: "Well darn it". This morning I got up and put it back together, I can notice because I know where the breaks are, but most people would not without searching. I think I will save this and use it on something else. Make another with some added finishing that I will do before I cut it out. FrankEV, barb.j.enders, Dak0ta52 and 3 others 6 Quote

jerry walters Posted June 4, 2024 Report Posted June 4, 2024 Now only you and about a thousand of your closest friends know stuff happens. Paul, like you I have made a few of these military emblems for family and friends. Have yet to make one for myself. Maybe someday. Oh, your glue up job looks great. No one will ever know. If you are anything like me, you will know and whenever you look at it all you will see is where you glued it. I always look at your postings because I think you are one of the scroll sawing gurus. Gonzo Posted June 6, 2024 Report Posted June 6, 2024 Nice piece and awesome job on putting it back together. I also love working with canary wood. Cuts real nice and is beautiful wood. (I wonder if it’s the oil in the wood that makes it cut so nice) Quote
