rhw Posted August 14, 2024 Report Posted August 14, 2024 My store-bought Christmas tree topper light-up angel burned out last year. I'd like to make a 3D star or angel that I could use, maybe multiple layers with LEDs. I did a SSV search but didn't turn up much. Has any seen any nice looking scrollsawn ones? Thanks in advance! rhw Posted August 14, 2024 Author Report Posted August 14, 2024 Hmm, answering my own post - using the Microsoft CoPilot site might lead to some interesting designs if I figure out the right wording to ask it. barb.j.enders 1 Quote
ChelCass Posted August 14, 2024 Report Posted August 14, 2024 This star looks like something Alex Fox might design. Check his site. You could also contact him and I am sure he could make you a pattern. He is a member here. Quote
Bill WIlson Posted August 14, 2024 Report Posted August 14, 2024 Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts magazine had a pattern for a lighted, wooden star. I don't recall the issue it was in, but it was essentially a star shaped box with decorative cutouts, filled with lights. As I recall, the most difficult thing was attaching it to the tree. I made one several years ago for my daughter and I think I ended up forming a makeshift spring shaped cone out of a wire hanger. Quote
rhw Posted August 15, 2024 Author Report Posted August 15, 2024 Thanks all. I appreciate the leads. The spring for the tree does seem to be a hard item to find. There are some links but they seem to be dead ends. https://www.etsy.com/listing/260008367/glitter-spring-coil-base-christmas-tree I'll also probably end up making something. Quote

You may have to buy a cheap topper and repurpose the spring from it. Quote
barb.j.enders Posted August 16, 2024 Report Posted August 16, 2024 How was the one you are replacing attached? Can you repurpose that? Quote

Also available from Sue direct https://scrollsawartist.com/two-tree-toppers-star-angel/ There is also an Intarsia Pattern in issue 69. Not lighted but it shows how to attach. Quote
