Popular Post FrankEV Posted November 13, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted November 13, 2024 (edited) I posted my FB Nov PAM in Bragging Rights. Thw following is just a some FYI. I decided to use some of the exotic wood I received in the box of cut-offs I had purchased recently. The Monkeypod I used for the dark brown fur is quite hard, but it cut and shaped nicely. However, the Mango I used for the light-colored fur was VERY hard and cutting and shaping was quite difficult. The mango color worked well, but the end grain turned dark brownish/yellow, that was accentuated when the finish was applied. Fortunately, it is not too noticeable when viewed straight on. I enjoyed doing this PAM, but I was not happy with the actual pattern that was provided. I needed to rework it using Inkscape – without changing it – so I could use it. I needed to add piece numbers, resize it, and improve the line work, to make the pattern usable. And, although the Subject was “CUTE”, it would not have been a project I would normally consider doing. Additionally, if the Project Pattern Title had not included the word Pink, I probably would not have use Cherry, but would have chosen a much more vivid color like maybe Padauk Red, for the jacket and Hat. barb.j.enders Posted November 13, 2024 Report Posted November 13, 2024 Very "cute" Frank. Did you texture the face? Or is that the grain of the wood? This is one that I was going to pass on but seeing a few done I may change my mind! FrankEV 1 Quote

Scrappile Posted November 13, 2024 Report Posted November 13, 2024 Boy Frank, you amaze me how many things you make. And your mastering of them all. Great piece here. FrankEV 1 Quote

I chose to only texture the FUR. I used a wire brush and a lot to pressure to get a strong texture in the very hard Mango and Monkeypod. I felt if I was to try and emulate the crocheted clothing, it would have been too much texturing and it would not have looked good for a wood project. It was not a too dificut pattern except for the area between the Jacket. I did not get as tight a fit as I wanted. Over all, I completed it in about 16 hours. I really wanted to do the PAM, but I too, almost passed because of the subject. barb.j.enders 1 Quote
