jamieline Posted November 15, 2024 Report Posted November 15, 2024 Watching folks at my shows I have mixed views on pricing items. Looking at other vendors I see some price everything and other don’t. I have some prices displayed on other items are not. I’ve watch some folks look for prices and if I can’t get to them some leave and some ask. I know not pricing opens up the dialogue but have mixed views. thoughts from other? Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted November 15, 2024 Report Posted November 15, 2024 (edited) I price everything. I have seen people have signs set up with a price and anything in front of it that is the price. Now when I have multiples such as my birdhouses, I stack them and have a sign stating Birdhouses $$price. Same with my billiardball clocks. A sign for that too. other wise it has a tag on it with price. As far as opening a dialog because of no price, I guess can be a trick. But I think back when I am in a dept store or Home Depot and wanting to buy something and no price on them. The price tag may have fallen off or someone removed it. That drives me nuts. kmmcrafts Posted November 15, 2024 Report Posted November 15, 2024 I feel like not putting the price is wasting time for both customer and you.. in a crowded setting who wants to hang around and wait for you to get done with another customer just to ask how much, only to find out it might be too much.. I say price everything and those that don't want to pay for it can choose to move along or make a purchase. Kinda like when people place ads on marketplace and don't put a price.. that waste both my time and theirs because I have to message asking how much and they have to reply.. it's unnecessary. Back when I did shows I had prices on all items.. Jim Finn and danny 2 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted November 16, 2024 Report Posted November 16, 2024 I price, almost, all my pieces. It is hard for some to be seen because they are on the hanger at the back of the piece. I don't have prices on my ornaments, or the stand, because I have two different prices. Flat are $10, compound/layered are $15. kmmcrafts 1 Quote
BadBob Posted November 16, 2024 Report Posted November 16, 2024 I want to see the price; I will generally walk away if there isn't a price. I'm not there to talk to the seller. If there is no price, it must be free. Roberta Moreton and barb.j.enders 2 Quote
Jim McDonald Posted November 16, 2024 Report Posted November 16, 2024 I come at this with 20 years of retail management experience. A price tag is a "silent salesman". It was practically impossible to get the entire store 100% priced as tags fall off, etc. We even had a program to generate tags as we found issues. My tables are priced, but still people will pick up something and ask about pricing--so no matter how hard you try, there is always one. danny 1 Quote

I have had people pick up pieces and it has price on it but they ask is that the best price? Now that sort of a no-no at a craft show but people still do it. I ask them if they go to the grocery store or dept store and ask those sales people if that is the best price they can do? They usually get the point. Now i will at my own discretion give breaks if more than one item is bought. barb.j.enders and danny 2 Quote

I do not lower my price during the event at all. If someone pays the price on the first day then I don't think it should be less on the last hour. I do sell the birdhouses for $10 each and 3 for $25 put it is posted. danny, barb.j.enders, JTTHECLOCKMAN and 1 other 4 Quote
jamieline Posted November 17, 2024 Author Report Posted November 17, 2024 I looked around at my current show and have seen mixed with prices marked on item. I had some signs and other items were not marked. I have since marked everything or have a sign. kmmcrafts and JTTHECLOCKMAN 2 Quote
BadBob Posted November 17, 2024 Report Posted November 17, 2024 Pricing may be a cultural thing. I have lived in countries where people haggled over the price of everything, from food to clothing. They believed that if you accepted their first price, you were a fool and deserved to be taken. danny 1 Quote

Well the other thought is especially at a craft show, the artisan sets his own wage and costs per item and you come along and do not agree with it and want it lowered. Who are you to tell them. You have no idea what time and effort is poured into making that piece and they have to make a living. It is not like walking into a car dealership or an appliance store where things are factory made and price gouging is built into pricing. Now grocery stores and dept stores you would have to chase down a sales person and good luck with that. There the competition is greater so you have choices to get similar products from different sources. Craft show pieces are one of a kind most times. danny and Joe W. 2 Quote

Maybe they just want to talk. JTTHECLOCKMAN and kmmcrafts 2 Quote
