ChelCass Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 Yep! -2 this morning in Michigan and we are 4f right now. Quote
Tomanydogs Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 We’ve been -30C which is -22F the last couple days. That doesn’t include the wind chill which makes it close to -40C. Still go out for a long hike in the back 40 with the dogs everyday. It’s really quite nice when you dress for it. Dan and barb.j.enders 2 Quote
RabidAlien Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 Low 20's here in the Austin Texass area, with an inch or two of fluffy powder on the roads....very peaceful and serene outside, which is about to be busted all to heck as I crunch my way down the road to work. I was stationed in Idaho Falls back in 94, out at the Arco site, and recall finding an Army-Navy surplus store and picking up what felt like a nice, heavy, Army foul weather jacket. Wore it instead of my peacoat, and I was the only one who was slightly warm at the bus stop waiting for the bus out to the Navy site. Next day, there were a couple more guys showed up in Army gear. Most of our instructors had various Army coats or even one or two civilian models over their uniforms. Navy regs kinda froze solid, as long as you weren't too flamboyant with your outerwear. Quote
barb.j.enders Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 A tad chilly here today. We are heading out to a local attraction call The Leaf to view the newest floral display. https://www.assiniboinepark.ca/leaf/visit-leaf/fleurs-de-villes Quote
TAIrving Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 The whole city and much of the state are shut down due to the weather. It got down to 27F (that's plus 27F) last night and it snowed, accumulated about 1". Everybody is freaking out. This is the worst winter storm since 2005 or so they tell us. The prediction is for it to get down to +20F tonight. Schools, churches, the golf course, etc. have already announced that they will be closed today and tomorrow. I cannot go in my woodworking shop as I have several potted plants in there to protect them from the freeze. And my heater is adequate to prevent freezing but not enough to make it comfortable. Tonight I will have to use the propane heater which will produce carbon monoxide, so no shop for a few days. I am looking forward to resuming woodworking and golf next week. Quote
rjweb Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 Texas woke up this morning to some snow on the ground, and like Thruman said we are getting down to +20 degrees tonight, RJ Quote
Gonzo Posted January 22 Report Posted January 22 23 below here in Minnesota this morning. It’s 5 above now and we’re having a heatwave. barb.j.enders 1 Quote
Roberta Moreton Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 (edited) In North Carolina, the main heat source is an electric heat pump. They can heat or cool. They don’t work especially well in extreme cold. It doesn’t get extremely cold here….usually. I had to get my huge pot out, fill it with water, and put it on the stove to help take off the chill. I also got my grandmother,s quilt and my mother in laws afghan out to put on the bed to keep warm. Below or near zero is not fun here! I’m glad it’s warmer now. 24° IT SNOWED AT THE BEACH! TAIrving Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 49 minutes ago, Dan said: I thought they made orange golf balls for winter golfing. No need for that. The snow has melted now. And the temps are now getting back up to golfing weather. I think we have had our one week of winter. BTW, the snow we had this week (1") was the second time we have had snow since I retired and moved here 14 years ago. Big difference between here and where I retired from (New Hampshire) where we had as much as 130" of the stuff in one winter. Funny joke: Fellow retired and decided to move South to a milder climate. He strapped his snow blower to the roof of his pickup truck and drove South until someone stopped him and asked, "What is that thing on the roof of your truck?" Funny in New Hampshire but people here in Houston don't understand it. Quote
Dan Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 130" is a lot. I know it didn't all come at once but I heard of people on snow mobiles getting caught in telephone lines. At least it's not Japan. I can't imaging shoveling this. wombatie and TAIrving 2 Quote
