Wichman Posted April 23 Report Posted April 23 I'm working on an art organizer featuring a coaster pattern from Charles Hand. First and second pictures are the unit I picked up at the dollar store, it's been very useful and I wanted another, but they're no longer stocking them. I was given the book of circular patterns and one of them seemed to fit the bill. I'm cutting two of the design, stacked. When done the two pieces will be separated by four, 5" long, 3/16" dowels with the ends cut lengthwise 1/2" from the end, 2 cuts at 90° to each other. This will allow the dowel to friction fit into the hole. JackJones, barb.j.enders and Dan 3 Quote
Wichman Posted Tuesday at 06:46 AM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 06:46 AM Got it done. Only needs a dip in BLO . I am very pleased with the result. Happy dance. barb.j.enders, Scrappile, preprius and 2 others 4 1 Quote
BadBob Posted Tuesday at 10:53 AM Report Posted Tuesday at 10:53 AM Great idea. I have one of the plastic ones. When it is loaded with many brushes, like mine, it is very easy to tip over. A weighted bottom would be a good thing to consider. Quote
ChelCass Posted Tuesday at 11:34 AM Report Posted Tuesday at 11:34 AM Wichman, you can buy those brush holder from Temu. I have a few and they work great for holding my brushes. Quote

The top is 1/4" elm, the bottom is 5/16" elm with 1/8" masonite laminated to it. I'll soak the unit a bit, an hour or so, in BLO to give it a little more weight. Quote

And I wanted to see if I could make a fancy one. barb.j.enders 1 Quote

Wichman Posted Tuesday at 05:18 PM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 05:18 PM Since this is a works in progress thread, some additional pictures I was disappointed with the tear out in the #24 holes I drilled for the 3/16" dowel supports. The holes I cut with the scroll saw were a better fit, with no tear out: I cut slots in the ends of the dowels so they would fit the holes better: I used a scrap piece of masonite to clamp the whole thing together while I applied super glue. Once I had the dowels in place, dry fit, they didn't want to come back out and I was afraid of breaking the piece, so I used super glue instead of polyurethane. JackJones 1 Quote
