I spent a good deal of time working on some Chistmas patterns that my wife purchased on ETSY yesterday.  They were two piece layered patterns that were received in a solid black format, and I didn't want to was all that ink.  I was able to RED LINE the drawings and use a light colored fill and prepare the pge for printing.  Thankfully, I printed befor I decided to save the images, because when I did assign a name to each pattern and chose "save as" from the drop down menu, my work appeard to be saved.  I later when back to print another set of pages for our files AND guess what wasn't there.  I went to Inkscape help, but that might as well have been written in MARTIAN, I couldn't make any sense of it and after a hugh amount of time I closed the file and decided my efforts were usless.  Has this happened to any else, if you have a correction, would you please share it ???

Sorry for the long post.

Thanks for the quick reply from you both.

Don, I did do the Open Recent, and only 2 of the 9 patterns are saved.  I have no idea of what I did differently to the patterns that were not saved.  I did name all 9 patterns, separately because we may want to print them out as needed.  The reason for ordering these is to send any one of them to family & friends, 37 pieces.

Wichman (sorry, I don't know your name) the lost files are not listed when the dialog box is selected.

Since I have copies printed, can I just scan these in & try to save again.

Thank you both for your help.

While I am not great with Inkscape the one bit I do know.......there is a box near the bottom that can be changed to "all" files.  That seems to help me when I lose patterns.

Not sure where that might be. Can you elaborate?

From the top row of options: file > open =dialogue box. In the dialogue box just below file name box is another box labeled files of type, click on the down arrow on the rh side of the box, scroll up one space and select " All Files". The open file dialogue box will now show every file in every folder that you select. It can get overwhelming so Inkscape allow you to choose how to filter the files shown by type. :)

Mine seems to be at the bottom.  I defaults to "SVG" files.  Can choose from lots of file types.

Once again, I THANK YOU all for trying to help me.

While going through this process, I believe I hit the wrong button somewhere along the line (IMAGINE THAT???)

Any how, I'm going to try one more thing before I throw in the towel, I am going to try to reinstall Inkscape to see if I can get it to behave.  If that doesn't work, I will go back to my other hobbies,  PULLING OUT MY FINGERNAILS USING CLAMSHELLS   🤪.
