Another victim of the economy. :?

Yesterday, I was told my office (branch) is being closed and will be moved to Portland. I'm lucky in the fact that it won't be official until June 15th while they transition.

They did offer me a job in Portland if I want it (basically the same position, but in a different state). So there's a pretty good chance I'll be moving to take the job. Especially since MT doesn't have much for my particular job skills. But that also means selling my house and moving my family. No easy task. A lot to do in a very short time.

If I decide not to take the job and stay here, I will get a nice severance package. But like I said, I don't know what I'd do, since my skills are not in high demand in MT. Big decisions.

I'll fly out to Portland in the next few weeks to check the place out and make my final decision. Boy, life is good at throwing you a curveball.

MT is nice, but I"m sure your options are very limited there. Beautiful country tho. Gonna hate to leave I'm sure. At least you don't have early teen kids that have to change friends and schools etc. If ya gotta do it, its nice that you can move to more oppurtunity. Best of Luck in your decision.

That really sucks. I would not like to make that decision because basically I hate change and more importantly I hate making decisions I'm a Libra have to weigh everything up and then still can't decide. But I wish you all the best in what ever decision you and your wife come up with.

I'm flying up to Portland in a couple weeks to check the place out. We're about 80% sure we'll be moving. They'll adjust my salary to match cost of living, so that'll be good. I have a feeling in the long run it will be a good move for us. But my wife and I are planners, we don't like abrupt change. ;)

Eh, it's good for us, right? It builds character. :) Plus I'll be close to a Woodcraft!

A very tough decision. Are you in a field where you could "telecommute"?

Nope. I'm a video editor (I edit infomercials and commercials). My wife telecommutes and she loves it. I'm a bit envious. So this move doesn't affect her job at all. So it makes it a bit easier.

We booked our plane tickets for the weekend of the 22nd to check the place out. We're fairly certain we'll take the transfer. So right now, I'm in a frenzy to fix up the house to put it on the market.

Hope everything goes well in the move Travis. Nothing is like MT, (I know, I grew up in Columbia Falls), but Portland isn't too bad. Right now the big thing is that you're able to keep your job, support your family and still be on Scroll Saw Village with US!

I know what you are going thru.  Just moved from Tenn to Michigan last Sept.  Luckly I already had a house in Michigan and the Tenn house is my Ex's problem.  A ton of stress but well worth it after all is said and done.  Now adays you have to go where the job goes or else. The economy really sucks!  I wish you the best.  Please keep us posted.
