Fliptop Tool Stand

Ever since I seen the Jet fliptop tool stand I kind of wanted one. Anyone have one or seen one in person? Wish I had a Home Depot closer by me. Maybe I better look at Menards as they may have something similar too.

Well here is my story. I always like to take my winters and do some work in my shop. Weather it is pen making, scrolling, or other woodworking hobbies. This is the time I dedicate for these things as with spring through fall I have either indoor projects or outdoor projects for the house to work on. This past winter I was in the shop around the end of Nov. and started working on some new projects that I wanted to try. (hopefully this year I can get some done and share them here) But everytime I wanted a tool or wanted an area to work something was in the way and I finally said to myself, self this has to get cleaned up and better organized. I have a large work table that basically became a catch-all for you name it and it was there. I was not able to even work on the table and always used the top of my tablesaw as my work table after I put a sheet of plywood on it. It got to be too much. So I went on  a cleaning spree and bought a bunch of hooks to  hang things and made shelves and lets say every inch of wall space has now been taken up. I also spent a bunch of money on new tools that will help in some of my new projects. Clear the bench, added a router lift to my router table and a whole bunch of other things. Now I work in a small basement shop so everything needs to be on wheels and easily moved. I bought a wheel base for my 14" bandsaw to replace the small wheels that came with that saw many years ago. Those wheels gave out so I could not move it any more. I bought some small cheap wooden cabinets that I had to put together and really are just storage things. Bought a larger metal better quality cabinet for my casting stuff which I cast acrylic resins for pens and things. 

I also bought one of those flip top tables because I save room for 2 tools. This is the one I bought.

  

I bought it off Amazon which I believe you are looking at the one you shown. I went back to see what I paid for mine. It was $227. I see it is not available any more. Not sure why but a couple things to note. I also bought these wheels (it did not come with wheels) 

Now I have used these wheels before on my router table and love them. They roll so easily and swivel 360 degrees which is a plus for me. Now I had to add a 3/4" block of wood under each leg because of the width of them do not fit on the narrow legs of either table. No big deal. As you can see you can lock all of them if you need to. I did this because that 3 wheel system that is on the table you show to me sucks. I had that on my router table and hated it. You have no spin ability with fron wheels so it is always forward and back to get in place. These wheels with the block of wood do raise the stand but you can adjust to heights you want. Very easly. My Dewalt planer stand still has that 3 legged wheel system on it but I will leave that alone. 

Now on the flip table I put my benchtop disck/belt sander which I like to use alot even though I have a 12" one also. I added a shelf across the cross braces to hold various jigs for the sharpening system as well as sandpaper for sander. I also added a shelf like that under my router table. While I was at it I added shelves across the RBI scrollsaw stands too. No space left open. Believe  me I still wish I had more room. But under the scrollsaws I keep a bunch of woodworking jigs I use in various projects. Now I will warn you that with those flip tables, yes you can bolt right through the top to support the tools, making sure your bolts do not interfere with each tool on each side. What I did was attach a piece of plywood on one side to make it easier to attach the sander and the Tormek being the heavier tool I bolted right through. You I am sure can figure this all out. 

To sum this up. I like the concept and like the table. They are heavy duty, just look at weight loads. They work real well and I am glad I bought it. Good luck. That is my story.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that ends up with the table saw and other tools end up being a workbench or a catch all spot to set things down. I don't even really have a workbench in my shop and that's what I'm working towards combining tools onto one of the fliptop strands to help free up some space for a workbench. I just made a big storage spot for my sheet goods up in the ceiling of my staircase landing and can store my 20 x 30 inch cut down BBply and other ply nicely and stand on one stair step to easily reach it without needing any ladder etc. so that worked out really nice. Even nicer is I only needed to screw in a scrap OSB piece of leftover that was already the right size, LOL. 

Switching hobbies from scrolling to doing more laser stuff ends up being I have finally got all the tools I ever wanted for scrolling and making my own lumber to now I don't really need 4 scroll saws and really don't use the planer, table saw, bandsaw, etc etc since I mostly buy sheet goods to laser onto or cut.. However I'm not wanting to totally give up scrolling and woodworking just yet.. and never really gave my CNC router and good go at things which usually I need big glue ups for the signs I make etc so those tools still have a potential to get used more once I "organize" and do a complete shop layout redo.. was set up really nice for scrolling though ..  I did sell a Hawk scroll saw a couple weeks ago so now down to 3 saws.. probably should sell at least one more but it's a struggle to decide which one goes since I like each for different purposes.

No matter what I ever do I will never sell off my large tools like the tablesaw, planer, bandsaw, lathe and others. When I am gone that is others problem. Too many home projects that pop up. I am right now fixing the rot on my outdoor shed. This requires new trim moldings and reworking the doors so tools are in need. I am fortunate to have a portable tablesw that I keep in the shed. An old Craftsman that I bought cheap when those satelite Sears tool stores went out of business. I sold Hegner and Dewalt scrollsaws. but will never sell the RBI saws. My hobbies span a wide range of woodworking adventures so never know when tools are needed. Now that things are basically squared away ( do have some little things to clear away yet but that is this fall). I will be able to use my workbench for what it is intended for. Should be fun. Will be making a bunch of boxes this winter hopefully. I bought a lot of fresh exotic woods last winter and I look forward to using these. Here are a few photos of my shop when I first built it. It looks nothing like that now but hey we all grow into this hobby stuff. made all cabinets myself back then.  Lots have changed since I first built this shop. Much more has been added and things have been sold off. I really should take some new photos of the present day shop. Photos are too small. Maybe I have larger ones. I will check.

I agree which is why I only sold the one Hawk.. I had to choose between the new one I bought or the other new one which was a 1998 but very few hours as it was in a seal box when I got it, LOL.. actually only had 100 hours on the meter and the new one sits near 500 hours.. Both were 26" saws and I felt I didn't need two of basically the same saw.. I like the Excalibur better for angle cutting and I have the dust vac system all hooked up to it so just not ready to sell it yet. The Hegner I still want to use more just to get a better feel for that saw.. shortly after I got it is when I started having some health things going on so I quit sawing thinking it was related to wearing the mask for several hours a day.. which was a small part of not feeling good but not the main issue. I still want to limit the scrolling as I do feel better without wearing a mask for hours on end. Laser fumes are extracted via dryer type vent to the outside so no dust, smoke, or anything with it other than presanding or after sanding and finishing etc is all and most of that I do outside when it's nice out. 

Anyway, I'll be keeping the bigger stuff since it's nice having for more than just the hobby.. still making and putting up new trim in the house when I get time and energy to mess with it. I've got two smaller benchtop type lasers that I'll likely sell.. Haven't used either of them in over a year and the Co2 tubes go bad / expire and also do from usage.. But the tubes cost about $200 for the small ones and that's about all they're worth if I sell them so sell them while they still work and have some value, LOL
