  1. It might be legit, but just be careful of scams. I get regular emails from people wanting to buy scroll saws from me. Usually a dozen at a time. They always seem to have money burning a hole burning in their pocket.
  2. I've been working all day with a number of engineers. We got to the point of bringing things back to normal. We'll be moving to a new server soon. More to come about that. It may have given me a few more gray hairs, but at least we're back online.
  3. Thanks John! I move the thread over to Pattern Making. You can find that here:
  4. Do you have your screen magnified so the fonts are large and easy to read? I'm guessing that's probably what's going on. SSV is dynamic, meaning that it will change it's layout based on how much screen real estate you have. So if you're zoomed in far enough where there isn't enough room for the menu, the menu and the icons will collapse into those 3 lines that @meflick described. The 3 lines is an icon to represent a list. If you click the three lines, it will list all of the menu items. You'll also have the bell icon, the envelope icon and a signout button also in that menu. To the upper left corner, you'll see a black button that allows you to back out of the forum and category. You can keep clicking the black button in the upper left corner to get to the main page. You can access anything on SSV through the menu (the three lines). If you don't want that view, you'll have to reset your screen back to normal and not so zoomed in. The shortcut for that is hold down the control button and hit the zero button. That will reset your web browser to show you the default size. Then the normal menu pops up that you're used to. To zoom in, hold down the control button and hit the + button. Remember, if you zoom in too much, it will switch back to the display with the 3 lines. To zoom out, hold down the control button and hit the + button. I hope that helps.
  5. Hmmm....I'm not sure what you are seeing. The site isn't that much different from the old site. The navigation menu is pretty much the same. All the forums are still there and in the right order. The upper right corner is slightly different, but not that much. Here's the rundown of the upper right corner: Create button. That's new. Click that to create a new topic, upload a picture, or update your status. You can ignore that and do it the old fashioned way, just like our old site. This is just a shortcut. Bell icon. The old site had a icon of a person in a chat bubble. But this is the notifications. Think of it like a doorbell that tells you when someone commented on a photo or a thread you started, liked one of your posts, or mentions you in a post. It operates the exact same way as the notifications worked on the old site. Envelope. That's the same as the old site. That's where you get your private messages. Works the same way as the old site. Avatar and your Name. The old site only had your name. If you click your avatar, it goes to your profile (The old site, you'd click your name, then choose profile). If you click your name, you can choose your profile, account settings, a few other settings, and sign out. The signout button used to be on the old site, but now it's located under you name menu. Just click your name, then choose sign-out. Here is the old site: Here is our new site: Not sure how helpful that was. Windows 10 has a tool called Snipping Tool that will take screenshots. This video shows how to use it. That way we can see what you're seeing and help get things sorted out.
  6. On the iPad, it looks different if you hold it horizontal or vertical. If it's horizontal, you get the normal menu. If you hold it vertical, the menus collapse to save screen real estate and the menu items are located under the 3 lines in the upper right corner. If you're on a phone, you only get the 3 lines because there isn't enough room to put the menu. The themes are really dynamic and adjust according to how wide your display is. The new theme doesn't offer the desktop version on mobile devices. The old site allowed you to switch to the full version, but I don't see that this one will let you do that.
  7. The nice thing about the signature, you can change it whenever you want. And all of your posts will reflect the new signature.
  8. You can add a signature in your account settings. Click the pulldown menu next to your name in the upper right corner, then choose Account Settings. Then you can click the Signature tab to create your own signature. Or you can take a shortcut and use this link: http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/settings/signature/
  9. Dale's Puzzles and Scroll Saw Goodies is now fixed! Let me know if you run into any troubles.
  10. Ugg. I guess that one more thing I gotta fix. Scroll Saw Goodies is on the same server as SSV. I'll see if I can get that sorted.
  11. The previous version didn't work like that either. You had to go to their profile to see their first name. I think the best place to put it if you want it on your posts is to have it in your signature as others have suggested. You can set up your signature in your Account Settings.
  12. If you're on the iPhone, in the upper right corner, there's 3 horizontal lines. That's the menu. Click that and a popup menu shows, then select forums. Either that, or you can click the black tag button that shows the forum name or category name. That will back out one level.
  13. SSV patrons will only see the 3 banner ads at the top. Those are from our website sponsors (we only have 3, the others promote other SSV features/services). The sponsors are scroll saw related. Right now, it's Sheila Landry designs, the Lifter for the DeWalt Scroll Saw, and puzzle patterns from Dale's Puzzles. If you're not a SSV Patron, we do have a few Google Ads to help support the site. I don't have those turned on yet, but they're on my To-Do list. Those are usually on the sidebar, bottom of the page, and after the first post in a thread. There's not too many, but it helps.
  14. If you're trying to upload to your gallery, click the User Gallery. Right under the Nav bar, there's two links: Upload To Your User Gallery, and Upload A New Pattern.
  15. Huh. I'm going to have to check that out. I like some of those really old designs. Thanks for the tip!
  16. Another neat feature I found, you can tag other members. All you have to do is type the @ symbol, then start typing their name. A popup window will show up with the list of folks with that name. Just click on the person you want to tag. When you post, their name will link to their profile. If you hover over their link, a popup with some basic stats shows up. Plus, they'll be notified that they were tagged in a post. Thanks @wombatie, this is a fun thread. I'm finding stuff all the time.
  17. Check out your profiles. They are much cooler than before. I also turned on a feature where you can upload a cover photo, just like on Facebook. And to step it up a notch, if you have either your Facebook or Twitter account attached, you can set it to automatically update your profile picture and cover photo (depending on which you have set to update). I think that's pretty cool. Plus, you have your regular profile info, your activity feed, your status updates, and your gallery/albums.
  18. When you log into SSV, you'll get a popup that asks if you want to recieve desktop notifications. If you click yes, you'll get notified if someone posts in one of your threads. I haven't looked at it close enough to see what the notifications are or how often they happen. You can turn it off in your browser settings. Here's an article on how to do that, depending on your web browser: https://support.kona.com/hc/en-us/articles/210777186-How-do-I-turn-off-desktop-notifications-
  19. I'll work on the theme and colors after I get some of the functionality working again. I find some parts hard to read since it's hard to see where one post starts and ends. I'll add it to the list.
  20. Ha! It's like an Easter Egg hunt. That would be neat, since I don't know where all the bells and whistles are yet. Just be forewarned, some features that are here today might be gone tomorrow. I've already found a couple features that conflict with others.
  21. What did you want to do with the browse button? I moved all those links to the top navigation bar. Did I miss moving something?
  22. It's that green number next to your avatar. It's also on your profile page.
  23. A lot of the background processes finished up late last night/early morning, so I think the website should be loading pretty well. Now it's about putting things where they're supposed to be and making it pretty again. It's a struggle...they really changed how the software works. I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to get it to work the way we want it. If you're having trouble, there might be old website cache in your web browser that is conflicting with the new software. You can check out this post on how to clear that out.
  24. There has been several people who are having trouble logging in. Sometimes when they are logged in, they go to a different page and it appears like they're logged out. For those who are having sign-in issues, give this a try. I think there's old cache data from the old software in your web browser that might be interfering with the new software. Try clearing your cache in your web browser: Instructions on how to clear cache: Chrome Firefox Internet Explorer Safari
  25. Reputation is how many likes you have. So if you post some cool content like a pic of a project, good answer to a question, or some good news, people click the "Like" button and you get a Reputation point. I think the the old system had it too, but was called something else, or it was less obvious. LOL. My reputation is pretty weak compared to some members. Maybe I'm less trustworthy.
